Apple rejects Steam Link iOS app from App Store

IMG_8182.JPG

If you were looking forward to the upcoming Steam Link app, and you own an Apple phone or tablet, you won't be able to use it, as Apple has denied the app from being on iOS devices. This change of heart comes after the company had originally approved the Steam Link app on May 7. Valve had made their official announcement, expecting nothing to go wrong. Near the time of launch for the app, Apple had quickly changed their decision, citing that the they had "business conflicts" with it that hadn't been originally discovered during the approval process, causing the app to lose certification and not be allowed on the digital storefront.

Valve has appealed the decision, stating that they are disappointed with Apple, and that they hope the company changes their mind. The phrase "business conflicts" hasn't been elaborated on, but it's assumed that Apple took issue with the app's ability to stream PC games to a phone or tablet, which would potentially cause Apple to lose sales on the mobile front. Steam Link is currently available for all Android devices.

It's what Appletards deserve. Who cares.
Nintendo likely won't allow Rainway on Switch to stream Steam games.

See where that logic goes? Apple has a closed ecosystem, but that doesn't mean their customers should be punished for their ego.

No ones punishes Apple's customers more than Apple. And the point is that apple's customers are all technologically impaired.

So they have no problem allowing scam apps on the AppStore that try to charge 99 dollars a week to use but the second they think they might lose .001% of the gaming market share they lose their shit. Pretty sure this is breaking some antitrust laws.

we expect something like this from ninty - they are a videogame company. Allowing one to stream games to the switch could cut into sales of games released on the switch.

Apple sells mobile phones. The fact that they are scared of losing sales on crappy mobile games is ridiculous. More profoundly so because android is going to allow this. It just seems like absolute buffoonery on apple's part.

Real take away is to ditch apple. Speak with your wallet - it's the language of business.

Im like meh about it. in the end i dont feel like steam is good for developers and this just helped ios developers stay profitable a little longer.

If streaming is allowed on android what will be the incentive to develop games for android?

I agree but unfortunately there's an abundance of appletards out there.
What I hate most about Apple is that other companies try to imitate them. Remember they had that great idea of non-removable battery first and others followed.

I'll never understand why people should be penalized for their choice in system.
They shouldn't be penalized, but picking a system known to be locked down limots what you can do obviously. If you picm Windows 10 S (or whatever the super locked down Windows Store only version on Win10 is) would you really be surprised that you don't get the same freedom as Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro (or Linux if that's what you want)?

So people shouldn't be penalized for their choice of OS but shouldn't choose a locked down one unless that's what fits their needs. Even Android users get punished because we miss out on or get late ports with IAP to access content instead of a one time purchase since people could share the APK and OBB. We do get lots of nice emulators and other apps though.

Coming from an iPhone user, this is kind of shitty.
Especially because they provide no reason for it YET there's an app on App store, not endorsed by Sony that allows you to remote play from your PS4 to your iPhone (which works wonders, better than buying a Vita or a Sony Xperia just for Remote Play)

What an incredibly mature and inciteful statement!

That reply + that avatar = win
