Hello Everyone, I would like to know if there is a way how to use google maps in my Kia Sorento 2013 EX, this vehicle has a touch screen navigator, but I would prefer to use google maps inter of the official OS that comes with it, I saw here in YouTube that you can hack and change the OS with some flash USB or something like that, this one that I saw it is a Windows OS, my vehicle also has USB port integrated to that touch screen navigator (well it is the same of that video), so if that is possible, I would like to know how to do it.

Why I prefer Googles Maps?, because is free to use, more easy and comfortable to handle, also with a wi-fi connections I can update the maps every time.

I know that I can use my smartphone, but as I have that navigator system it will be better, I also can connects my smartphone throw Bluetooth to that navigator system, but just to make and receive calls and see my contacts list, so perhaps there should be something I can do, any clue?

For more details of this device please see the video and documents attached (sorry for the documents that is in Spanish language but that is just to show you how it look like the system), I can give more details in case of need it.

NOTE: If this is not the right place to ask for it, please give me a references where to find it or to do it, thanks in advance..!!!!

I'd have to assume that there's a custom firmware that you can flash that includes Google maps, but I really wouldn't know... I don't know if there are too many people on GBAtemp that are into cars, let alone car hacking, although I do know that there are some dedicated forums for stuff like this online

@Sicklyboy do you know anyone who would know about something like this?

Thanks for your answer, I hope to get something and share it here too, it could be useful for all, not just for My vehicle but for all that use Navigator or GPS.

Im at work and cant look at this too much right now. Headunit doesn't have android auto or apple car play support i imagine, right?
In my case this vehicle support my android Galaxy Note 3, and also has USB port, see the video and you also will see that somehow, someone used to handle some kind of Windows OS on it.

Doesn't sound like it would natively support Android Auto.

That said, this is a LOT of theorycrafting here...

This link looks to have some info on how to get it to boot to WinCE - http://www.kiaownersclub.co.uk/forum/how-to-enter-windows-ce-sportage-2016_topic37376.html

Then, you could possibly maybe get the Android Auto Desktop Headunit software installed, which is for testing Android Auto apps on a Windows computer - https://developer.android.com/training/auto/testing/index.html

That said, I don't know if WinCE supports that, furthermore I would be surprised if WinCE will support, and subsequently pass through the car's mic, steering wheel controls (if present) or gps receiver. GPS -might- work off of the phone, I'm not positive.

EDIT - also, if WinCE would even support ADB drivers for an Android device, and that USB passthrough to the heatunit works while it has WinCE booted.

EDIT 2 - Also just noticed that the link is for the sportage. I searched Sorento and got there though, so maybe it still applies? I just searched "kia sorento windows ce"

EDIT 3 - Having said that, as previously mentioned, upgrading the car to an aftermarket, double-DIN Android based headunit would probably be a much cleaner and MUCH more functional solution IF the car does not have HVAC controls or other such things like that tied into the headunit. I am not familiar with Kias at all and CBA to look it up. If you have an Android based headunit (note: one running Android OS, not one that has the Android Auto application... this is an utterly moot point if the latter is the case) you can run Headunit Reloaded which is supposed to make an Android OS-based headunit capable of acting as an Android Auto-compatible unit. Do you need it? That's up to you, but as someone who has a Ford with their SYNC 3 system as well as Android Auto functionality, Android Auto is LEAPS AND BOUNDS BETTER than Ford's SYNC 3.

Hello Sicklyboy, thanks for your time answering all of this info, I will keep looking to try to get it work and post it here when that happen, I also remember there is a program call "BlueStacks" to be installed in the PC that allow you to use all apps used in smartphone including games, google maps, and others, I used to play Clash of Clans in my PC using that program and it work perfect, so, if somehow I can make to work that Windows CE and install that "BlueStacks" program or some other similar perhaps t could be a way to do that, so, thanks again for your clue, I will keep searching, also as I mention before this is not only for my Kia Sorento it could work for all GPS or Navigator system in any vehicle because I think this is a general solution to be done in the same or similar device.

It should also be noted that if you can manage to install a version of Windows to the head unit, there's also a handful of (paid) native Windows applications designed for CarPCs that include navigation, MP3, and radio functions
