I can't view textures on models at all without guidlines on. I also can't get models to load textures at all with fragment shader on.

SPICA actually has less editing options than the forked Ohana with the BCH texture replacer. SPICA itself has absolutely no import options, it is ONLY a viewer/exporter. In that regard, it does a better job then Ohana as well as rendering the models. However when it comes to texture/model edits and imports it's not going to help you at all.

How DO you run it? I can't find any .exe in the Zip.

On the readme, it has a link to a premade windows build.

Interesting, I didn't know that (I never actually used the tool before).

gdkchan for whatever reason likes to pretend people don't want editing options in the program. They've been asking in numerous threads here and on 3DS modding forums where the OP SPICA thread is located for quite a while. The only answer given was if I paraphrase, "If there is an interest it may be implemented in the future." Though, to this day it hasn't happened and the only reason we got importing options with Ohana is from requests with persistence during it's hay day and repo forks.

Basically if you guys want FULL editing options in these programs you'll either have to bribe gdkchan with some incentives (cash always works), another dev that could implement what you want or attempt to add these features yourself. Your only other option is to use them as is and deal with the very buggy nature of the importing features.

Its not that him or I don't want editing options in these programs. We want to export to all kinds of 3D formats but theres a lot of complications. For instance, GFModel and BCH store their data very differently and I think BCH has things that GFModel doesnt and visa versa. Also like if i were to import SMD and export as GFModel or BCH, that might not work well because SMD doesnt support anims among other things. That being said, the only reasonable converting tool we could implement would be texture swapper. Also, the reason both Ohanas were dropped was because they code got too messy and cumbersome from these kinds of features, so a rewrite was in order.
