Hi,
I'm here to bring some clarity to questions people have about updating. As I've been following consoles hacking since Wii's release, I thought it would be good to give a point of view on the question that consider console hacking history.
Updating or not is just bet, and that's all, this is exactly like placing money on exchange, there is always a way to "loose".
I asked the question to myself, should I update?
The answer is no, but if I stay on that position too much time I could be on an unexploitable firmware and wouldn't be able to update to an exploitable one because one newer is out and no game have the update files.
If you update, what could happen?
You could put yourself in the same situation as with the 3DS where an update changes and fixes too much things in the console, and after that the only ways to softmod the console are clunky and dangerous.
It's a bet, I base my choice on what @NWPlayer123 says to be honest, as he always have been helpful to the community. I have also some knowledges to judge by myself... The thing is: stay informed, that's the only way to make best choices. If you prefer online now, update and maybe suffer later. If you don't care and understand that you could wait before having the most fun thing in yout hands, then don't, stay informed, take time to read this forum.
There is no way to know if updating is a good choice or not, it's purely based on luck, but often, knowledges beat luck.
About GBATemp community and "Should I update?" thread for newcomers:
Understand that the community is kind of tired of people coming like that, I am not part of people bashing newcomers, but some will, read stickies and last post before asking something or die under community's fire.
People could tell GBAtemp is messy as fuck or whatever, but it is independant and can get things done. Respecting the hacker's policy is part of using the hacker's work. This thing could almost be a post-it on all hacking forums here. Stay patient, at the end people get things from here free...
This post is not organized, but I just wanted to post that somewhere, I think it can be useful to understand the situation to some people.
PS: and yes I'm a big lurker and have an account since only two years, proof that you can get what you want from here without spaming. i created it to write some tutorial on wiiu hacking.
