Well, I've been reading this topic from the start, and I must say there are many mixed reactions here, each proving their point well.
Now, I will "retell my tale", as I use to say. Feel free to skip my post if you wish, this features my experience and views on the current DS-X situation, not to mention the heart of this content - my story.
Dec 2, 2006 - I entered the flashcard world. No, seriously. I had never owned a cart before. Not for GBA, Slot 2 NDS, nothing. I did some research on flashcards and stuff and what did I get on Google? DS-X. Looked pretty cool. Looked it up and came to the point that it was quite a cool cart and I'd ask my parents to buy it.
Dec 3, 2006 - Well, I had ordered it. A flashcard guaranteed. Dunno what was so fascinating about it then, but Mod-Chip.com certainly had my order now and I wouldn't regret it. Paid 67 pounds (105 euros), quite a lot for a flashcart, but as it was unrivaled in the market at that time, I didn't mind. I joined the DS-X forums as HBK (still active) and talked a lot on what now is the Reseller Forum to check the state of my delivery - they had factory 3rd batch delays, etc...oh, well gotta wait.
Dec 22 - Finally shipped after a long wait. I just knew it wouldn't come for Xmas, so I waited. It came on the 28th. Opened it up, connected to PC, transferred a game over, booted it up, WOW. Yep, for a guy that never had a flashcard, playing Advance Wars on a non-official cartridge was awesome. All played fine until...........
7 MAR, 2007 - Game Over. My DS had failed to recognize my DS-X, PC listed it as DTV-B firmware something. Yeah, then I reported my issue on the support tracker, DS-X Guru helped me, and after a full computer reformat (had to as the recovery drivers weren't compatible with Vista), 2 hours later, rejoice. It worked again. No issues until....(yeah, you're wondering how many issues I'm gonna have)
.....The Zelda bombshell. Yes, we all know the 2Mb save melodrama which affected LOADS of people waiting eagerly to play what is one of the best RPG games to date. IRC flooded with n00bs, not to mention the support tracker and forums, which slowed to a crawl. Mods deleting topics, etc, I had never seen so much havoc on the DS-X forums and GBATemp. It doubled when people discovered that Sim City failed. Twice in one day. This was just the beginning....
People say that there are bad things which come for good or something like that, and it certainly did. But not for the DS-X team. Instead, a bunch of Tempers discovered the fix for Hoshigami - another game with the "2 MB fiasco" problem - and enabled them to play Zelda and Sim City too on their DS-X's. It wasn't a 2 MB save problem. It was the ARM7 protection which the DS-X couldn't bypass, therefore resulting in an error.
What matters now aren't not the statements (hypocritical!) which the DS-X team make now, it's the way they treat their customers. I mean, when I received my DS-X, I was really happy, but now, I'm disappointed. The DS-X was a great product, could well be the leader of Slot 1's, but it fell drastically over the past few weeks.
Stating that "We will not fix the DS-X problem so you can pirate Zelda" is utter crap. What makes me mad is NOT that I can't pirate this or that game - no, I don't care, I can wait, I'll buy the game if it REALLY necessary - it's the LACK of support that the team hasn't detected yet. Mods have increased over the past weeks to control the flood of complainers, but it doesn't help. They're only making it worse. After all, it's the customer which has the final word.
Resuming, if the DS-X doesn't release an update in the near future (I'm talking about 1 month MAX, not a year, mkay?), their customers will certainly decline, and they will be in a very bad situation.
I ordered an R4 on June 30th, it should come tomorrow, and I'm going to give the DS-X to my sister. I just can't wait SO long for features you promised a long time ago. Oh well...but I have one final statement.
DS-X team, if you want customers to regain confidence in you, listen to them. Because if you do, it'll make everyone happier. Trust me.
