DS-Xtreme OS 1.1.2 Update

"Crucial" upate for all customers

dsx.gif
DS-X Team have released an updated version of the OS v1.1.2. They state that this is a crucial update for all customers and fixes some compatibility issue with Windows Vista. Unfortunately this is not an update disguise, and the recent problem plaguing flash kits regarding 2Mb saves has not been addressed.
DS-X said:
Due to some low level “security” changes in the way Vista communicates with external drives we have been forced to make some changes to the internal DS-Xtreme CPU firmware which handles the USB communication. This, therefore, means that that we strongly recommend that ALL users of the DS-Xtreme product range perform this crucial update. We have now implemented a check for this new firmware into the updater. The updater will automatically program the new firmware, if older firmware is detected, at which point the updater will require you to detach the device and re-attach it so that the new firmware upgrade takes effect. The updater will then continue to update the various sub systems, including the OS and FPGA should they require updating

I actually wanted to post "XD, Zelda is out and we get mass flashcard updates", but this isn't even refering to it. Oh well.

Lol, do you really think the DS-X team would release an update for Zelda? Yeah....maybe in 2025.

Nothing crucial about this at all. There is like, nothing new except it doesn't corrupt the ds-x after updating to 1.1.2

just wish they fixed compatibility for 2MB savetype x_x

They always are so slow with such minor things to update. Instead they're still working at a qkin thingy (at least that is what the beta is about as I can see it)

They went from FAT16 to FAT32. That's what was "crucial".

What a $@#$ing hackjob. I can't believe they are still in business.

Not too sure the point of this update, but I sure hope they update this new savegame fix fast, sure makes me wish I didn't pay the near 150$ for a ds-x when it first came out, vs my r4 for 40$.

Crucial update... of course for those users whose DS-X was totally useless, because now they can load games at least. That is what has been the betatesting. People with useless DS-X saying "whoooa" (after seeing their device booting a game for the first time), but no serious playing-saving-what about that problematic game...?-playing-saving and so on.

So after the "whoooa" some people is realizing their DS-X is just doing what is suppossed to do every other device on the market. I mean, AT LEAST load and save games. But it is doing no more (when compared to competitors features) and it is doing it BAD.

Some people has started to report LOOONG .SAV creation times upon startup, and I'm talking of MORE than 20 seconds. There is official word on this from DS-X "Guru" and he says "that is to be sure the .SAV is created without problems. We will be optimizing saving times in the future". What a SHAME.

Look, I'm still using old 1.0.2 FW without any "qkin" fix applied (I've never experienced it) and the logest time it tooks to create a .SAV file is 5-6 seconds for Mario Kart. Pokemon D/P time is not much more than 1 second. So DS-X users, times longer than 5-6 seconds should not be tolerated.

I'm not going to update my firmware yet. Today I've found that Code Lyoko is playing and saving fine in 1.0.2 while for 1.1.0 it was reported as not working (don't know about newest 1.1.2). I will be also interested in someone to check Bleach DS 2nd and Pokemon Ranger, both with known saving problems in past firmwares.

About the recent Zelda and SimCity games. Giving support to them should be an easy and QUICK task given there is already support from other device manufacturers. But we are talking about DS-XtremeLYSLOW team. Given they still have EEPROM problems to manage 512 kbytes saves, don't know what will happen with 2048 kbytes (2 megabytes, I'm assuming this is the correct size, correct me if I'm wrong) saves. They first have to adapt their shitty virtual EEPROM system to accomodate such size, so time will tell.

Remember, somebody using the latest 1.1.2 please test Code Lyoko, Bleach DS 2nd and Pokemon Ranger.

Guys, you're all confusing 2 MB and 2 Mb. 2 Mb = 256 KB / 0.25 MB.

And I still don't know why this is a "2Mb save problem" when Zelda is clearly using a 4Mb save, and that's the problematic game.

I tested Bleach DS 2nd using firmware 1.1.2 and got some saving problems (I think it might be something similar to what is happening with the new Zelda game... but I could be wrong). You can still play the game, as long as you don't mind starting from the beginning over and over

just checked out the ds-x forums and it seems a number of people are being banned for asking for an update and some pissed off post from one guy.

, that is exactly the problem since FW 1.0.2 Hope you can test Code Lyoko (not working on FW 1.1.0) and Pokemon Ranger (save corruption after playing other apps) too.

About Zelda save size: I had assummed it was 2 megabytes (2048 kbytes) because people was talking about the size as being the cause of incompatibilities, so it couldn't be 2 megabits (256 kbytes) because that's pretty common currently. DS-X supports games with 2 megabits saves like Mario Kart, Metroid PH, hell even Pokemon D/P which is said to actually use 4 megabits saves (512 kbytes)

However, Advanscene reports Zelda save as 2 megabits (256 kbytes), so I'm not sure what's the problem with the DS-X.

DS-X's support looks messed up...I feel sorry for those who bought it and can't play the newest game.

Hell, even the old slot-2 EZ4 received a update for new games.

Nothing crucial about this at all.
Actually, this is a crucial update because a broken version of this firmware was handed out via the web-updater for a week or so. Which means this is the first "stable" firmware since 1.1.0, which was released in January (1.1.1 was broken, and the 1.1.2 which was available for a while was also broken).

The bizarre thing is that everyone's DS-X experience seems to be completely random. Not only do some people have no problems at all while others have totally nonworking units, but several steps in between also exist. Some people have long saving times, some people have save corruption, some people have other things. I like to think of myself as an enlightened, rational person, but in this case I am convinced that there is both black magic and bad karma involved.
