I'm in the same boat ;-; I wish we could at least pre-order it or something, we don't even have a date yet </3
Well, I have both USA and JPN (English patched) on my 3DS. I just want to buy the game for real, you know, to support the devs! ;)
(Also, this marks my 3000th post! Hooray!)

Saaaame! I just wanna pre-order the special edition instead of constantly being on edge about it selling out before I even know about it :C

I've only played the fan translation so I can't compare it to the official Fates localization, but I'd say that the fan translation is pretty good aside from some lines which sound a bit strange in English without being altered a bit more and some that kinda spill out of the text box, but even those don't matter too much, and text has only spilt out of the text boxes either twice or three times in my experience thus far.

IMO, the fan translation is a lot better. I'm just waiting for the support conversations to be included. Also Japanese audio.

w8 the fan translation does not support the dialog between characters?
Some of them are translated, but only a few, and it's being worked on. If you wait a little while they should be done.
Also IIRC only up to Chapter 10 is translated for the Birthright path. I think it's also the same for the Conquest path.

its subjectively better because they translate a lot of stuff literally, however, many people find that weird cause japanese humour and even everyday manerisms doesnt translate well. like german humour. and subjectively better because japanese audio, however, to the average person, japanese audio is just unintelligable nonsense. soooo.

also, you're not wasting hours rubbing faces in the localized version.

I think the big thing everyone worries about is the Big Changes, like the support conversation that's several walls of text in Japanese that's reduced to two characters having a silent stare-off in the localization.

Or the fact that the female same-sex love interest's dialogue got rewritten into a carbon copy of the dude-with-her dialogue, rather than the unique (and twice as long) dialogue she had in Japan.

These things snowball as more blogs post side-by-side comparisons.

Simplest solution: just buy the game where you live, and download the rfs files from Serenes patch (aka "HANS patch"). With this, you can apply the patch (or not) at will and you will make your own opinion if you replay some moments in both versions.

The face rubbing shit is boring anyways.
Is that really an excuse for it being removed though? I can understand not caring for the mechanic - It's boring and I don't think it has anything to do in a Fire Emblem game, but it's the year 2016, do we really need Nintendo to baby us and delete content they deem problematic from a game? Isn't that what the ESRB is for? I doubt there's any 9 year olds playing Fire Emblem anyway, and the face touching thing wasn't even lewd or anything, so why censor it?

I wasn't saying it should've been removed because it was boring, I just said I personally find it extremely boring, so I don't care if they take it out or not.

you misunderstand. its not been removed because it was deemed problematic. its been removed because it was deemed out of place in the west. just like a bunch of other stuff the localization changed during conversations. by giving th 4% hardcore japanese fanboys the finger, they win the favor of god knows how much of a player base they won with fire emblem awakening.
its not about babying you. its about babying their sale numbers

Well, that's a questionable argument: does removing the complexity of characters (i.e. reducing Rhajat to a creepy stalker from an emotionally stunted person than can grow out of being a stalker like Syalla does) increase said appeal? Does removing a dialogue that delivers 40% of two characters' backstories in exchange for a "two gruff killers glare at each other silently" joke sound sensible? Was it really necessary to worsen an already problematic context of both same-sex love interests being people of low moral fiber by making BOTH of them ruder and creepier in translation by removing parts of their love confessions?

This greatly reminds me of Advance Wars Days of Ruin, where the EU version was a post-apocalyptic war drama and the US version was an animesque Mad Max parody where half the cast was crazy for the sake of being crazy.
