Hey guys!

I've uploaded a boxart.rsd to my website, it contains all of the box art (up to 0896, I think) ... Feel free to download it if you like, that way you'll have pre-loaded boxart for every release!
smile.gif

Many thanks to Hank for the great app, and for sending the full boxart.rsd file!

Download boxart.rsd here!

Be warned though, for the *cough* dialup *cough* users, it is 15MB so expect to wait a while

Hey Hank,

I was wondering if you could maybe check your database for these games:

-----
Roms Owned: 888
Roms Missing: 18
-----
0065 - Tiger Woods PGA Tour (E) (M3)
0094 - Akumajou Dracula - Sougetsu no Juujika (J) (v1.1)
0195 - Simple DS Series Vol. 2 - The Billiards (J) (v1.1)
0288 - King Kong (E) (M10)
0310 - Minna no Mahjong DS (J) (v1.1)
0326 - Touch Dictionary (K) (v1.1)
0413 - Tetris DS (E) (M5)
0457 - Brain Training - How Old Is Your Brain? (E) (M6)
0483 - Bokujou Monogatari - Colobockle Station (J)
0495 - Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (E) (M5)
0496 - Touch Dictionary (K) (v1.2)
0497 - Monster House (U) (M2)
0601 - Scooby-Doo! Who's Watching Who? (U)
0702 - Eragon (E) (M5)
0703 - Asphalt Urban GT 2 (E) (M5)
0810 - Brick 'Em All (E)
0815 - Scooby-Doo! Who's Watching Who? (E)
0844 - PES 6 (Pro Evolution Soccer) (E) (M5) (v1.1)

I actually have them all, but ROMinator doesn't recognize them. I've tried downloading second and third copies for maybe five or six of them, but every time I try to add one to my game list, it says 'there is no info in the database for this ROM' ... Any ideas?

Thanks Mavis, I'll look into this.

This was expected because I changes the way Rominator recognized roms, as it didn't recognize any v1.0's, only 1.1's and 1.2's. Now it only recognizes 1.0's, and only a few 1.1's This'll help making all the games work for sure
smile.gif

Regards.

EDIT: Allright, everything has been fixed and the database updated.

I noticed that some of your numbers are different from GBAtemp's. Rominator is going by GBAtemp's release list. Although there is no *official* list, this is the community that I belong to, so this is the list I go by
smile.gif

However, the games that were unrecognized have all been tested and are now recognized
smile.gif

I'll be updating with the latest releases tonight.

Hey Hank!

Thanks for the updates!
smile.gif

I found one more game that seems to be incorrectly identified in the database: 0582 (NTR-AMPE-USA) ... In ROMinator it shows up with the correct box art, but the name shows as "Shikakui Atama wo Maruku Suru - DS Kanji no Shou" which is actually the name for ROM # 0584. Therefore, when I try to rename the ROMs using "%t - %c" it gives me an error when it gets to 0584, because it's incorrectly naming 0582 with 0584's name.

Hope that makes sense. Anyway, thanks again for your hard work. This program is shaping up to be the best ROM manager out there!! Good job!

Thanks. That's an easy fix

It's not broken
smile.gif
Your computer just didn't download it fully, and it thought it did, so it stored it.

Wait for the next release. It should be ready soon, but I think I'm gonna up it to v3.0 because there's a lot of new cool features
smile.gif
smile.gif

One of the features is the ability to force a refresh of the box by clicking on the box art

I really like this, congrats to Hank on a fine piece of coding. I've used a few rom checkers / sorters / managers over the years and this one looks very promisiing.

Here's a few things i'd like to see included:

- view of box back art and nfo file
- resizable (scalable?) window
- zip/rar support
- sorted / stored files stored compressed.

- make this program a portable app - i.e. not use any registry or the like so that it can be used on any machine (i want to be able to put it on a USB pen and take it to work but have nothing stored on my work pc, just stored in it's own directory on the pen.

All in all though, excellent work.... thankyou very much :-)

"- view of box back art and nfo file"
• Box back art isn't happening. That would mean I would need the full box for each game, and for over 900 games, I won't do that. NFO viewing is coming though.

"- resizable (scalable?) window"
• A big maybe. If I can get the rom list and game list to scale accordingly with the window, then it'll be resizable. If not, then it stays the way it is.

"- zip/rar support"
• Again, another big maybe. I want Rominator to load quickly so I'd rather not uncompress any data, but hey, it's your guys' call
smile.gif

"- sorted / stored files stored compressed."
• Again, this would fall under Zip support. Plus, I'd rather the files not be compressed because the user can define the location and I wouldn't want to tamper with their roms.

"- make this program a portable app - i.e. not use any registry or the like so that it can be used on any machine (i want to be able to put it on a USB pen and take it to work but have nothing stored on my work pc, just stored in it's own directory on the pen."
• There's too many settings that Rominator stores, and I've already had issues of people complaining that files are missing, because they delete the data folder. I'd rather leave it on the local machine. It's mean to be an 'Organizational Suite', not really a 'Pocket App'
smile.gif

On a happy note, I've posted a teaser of a couple features of the new rominator. Check it out:
Rominator 3.0 Teaser

You might have to wait until the whole thing loads before playing the video. No worries, it's only 3MB.

Zip support will be coming. 7Zip may come*later*

But remember one thing: Having Zip support will be *much* slower, because it has to extract some data from each game in the archive to read it, so for it to do all that work, and if you have a large list of games, it could take a while, so using Zipped games is up to you.

Besides, we're in the age 0f 500+GB Hard Drives, why not have them uncompressed
smile.gif

@OSW: I don't understand why a measley feature such as Zip support could turn you off from a feature-packed application
smile.gif

I understand your points and i love your programs features, its just a personal thing that i like to keep all my roms untrimmed and zipped although when i transfer them to my card i will trim a copy. i believe that only keeping prepatched copies can be problematic if an error is made or you use various carts.

and not everyone had huge HDD's, although i do have 470GB my space is almost full.

in the end, i may decide to use your program more in the future, but until then, good luck with it.

Actually, I don't care about ZIP support (I have all 917 ROMs unzipped in one big folder) but your comment about loading quickly caught my eye. I would LOVE to see a database-style approach to file management - as it is now, ROMinator takes a VERY long time to scan all 917 ROMs, and it has to re-scan every time I switch to a different smart list, etc. It would be great if ROMinator stored my file data somehow, so that it didn't have to re-scan every time I open the program or switch game lists. Any chance of that happening in the future?

Yes. in 3.0. Although the first time you run Rominator it will take a while to scan the folder. From there on, loading will be snappy but the program will still have to do specific file-scanning tasks, such as getting the size of the file, the trimmed size, and the game icon. This is all read directly from the rom, soI'll have to see how much faster a database approach will be. If it doesn't make much of a difference, then I won't use it. If you're using over 900 games in a folder, probably best to turn off icons to make loading quicker
wink.gif

Right now it takes 15 seconds to do scan 200 games, and I guess it would take just over a minute to scan 900.

I agree with keeping untrimmed/unpatched roms. I only keep clean unpatched backups for the same reason. This is why Rominator will trim or patch your game as it's flashing to the card, leaving the original untouched.

And you're right, not everyone has huge HDD's, my laptop only has 80GB

Just a quick query ... I've added a couple of roms to my HDD but when I click to sort my name column, the roms I've added stay at the bottom of the list either way I have the name sorting. Any ideas?

Edit: I've noticed that the roms I've added are roms I've manually named prior to them having a proper release name in the database, I think that has something to do with it. When I view my roms on my R4, the other roms seem to have a space in the name before the title, then the roms I've manually added don't. Sounds confusing! Example:

Tetris DS (Rominator renamed)
Yoshis Island (Rominator renamed)
Garfields Nightmare (Manually renamed, then Rominator)
Theme Park (As with Garfield)
