MGS V for PC comes with empty DVD disc

If you bought the newest iteration of the Metal Gear Solid series to play on your computer, you might have been surprised to notice that the DVD disc that was in the box did not actually contain any game files. All it contains is an installation binary for Steam, allowing you to download the game in full from the Internet (~30 GB).

What do you think about this? Should the game have been sold as Blu-ray? Or perhaps multiple DVDs?

Not sure where the bluray disc came from but all the other sources says its just a regular cd
I think people just got confused because it said bd rom drive
the source I got must be wrong, do you have a source that indicates the disc was actually a CD rom ? thanks
I thought as much, to be honest.. there's no way they would be that dumb

Here's the only source I found so far that actually mentions the size of the disc. There might be more than one page though since I have a number...

First discovered by Twitter user @graphure, the disc included in the boxed copy of Metal Gear Solid V is 9GB in size, but is almost entirely blank. The only thing on the disc itself is an 8MB download installer file that your computer can use to download the game from the Steam digital store.

That's always been the case with retail though, and almost anyone who knows about the refund policy and buys it at retail knows full well they can't refund it. The real question here is, why did they only include a steam installer?
Well if something happened like SimCity, where people straight up didn't get what was advertised (game was actually unplayable for a week) people have a right to return their copy as a defective product. That wouldn't happen with a single player game like MGS5 but it's still something to keep in mind.

This defeats the purpose of a physical release, especially on PC. People who get PC games on-disc in this day and age mostly do so because of bandwidth limitations, data caps or overall slow and unreliable internet service, there's no reason for them not to get games via Steam or Origin otherwise, maybe with the rare exception of limited editions, and even then it's just for the physical collectibles. What exactly is the benefit of getting this game on-disc when in the end you have to download it via Steam anyways? The box? Konami could've saved themselves a lot of money by just putting Steam vouchers in all the boxes - they would't have to press useless discs. They would save even more by not releasing it physically at all - at least they wouldn't look stupid now.

I think it just shows how incompetent they really are. Isn't Silent Hills now a pachinko machine game? I'm tired, so...

Konami, where did you go? Why did you give up? The writing is on the proverbial wall her guys. They seem to have simply, given up. Sad too cuz Konami is responsible for some of the best games made. That name once held clout. If you went to the store and saw Konami on something it used to MEAN something. Now? It just means endless disappointment. I am positive MGSV is a good game, how could it not be? That still doesn't discount the fact that this will more than likely be the last good game we will ever see from the once loved Konami. Lets all have a moment of silence for our beloved franchises... *sniff* Good buy good games... On a side note, I don't blame Kojima for distancing himself from these nutters, in fact, it surprises me it took him so long. Then again he did want to get this last great magnum opus out there first so there is at least that to be thankful for.

I have updated the news thread since it wasn't a Blu-ray after all
it makes a little more sense then, I suppose
game wouldn't fit on a DVD, they would have had to include several DVDs or make it a blu ray but then not everyone has bluray players
