If you already have the homebrew channel installed, you don't need to use an exploit. Just launch homebrew from the homebrew channel.

Existing cIOS:
cIOS rev17
cIOS rev18
cIOS rev19
cIOS rev20 <-- You currently have this one
cIOS rev21
cIOS rev21 d2x v1
cIOS rev21 d2x v2
cIOS rev21 d2x v3
cIOS rev21 d2x v4
cIOS rev21 d2x v5
cIOS rev21 d2x v6
cIOS rev21 d2x v7
cIOS rev21 d2x v8 <-- Latest stable
cIOS rev21 d2x v9 beta 49
cIOS rev21 d2x v10 beta 52
cIOS rev21 d2x v10-alt beta 53 <-- latest release. Marked as beta, so maybe modmii will not install this one. It's fine if modmii gives you v8. don't worry.

I just wanted to reply to say thanks!

I was very happy with my wii with a usb loader using an old power+usb external hard drive, but I wanted to upgrade to a USB only drive because plugging in power is annoying.

I got a small USB 3.0 drive and my wii would see the games but black screen on load.

I had cIOS rev17! (since I had soft modded my wii several years ago). I now have v8 and the new Hard drive works fine now.

THANKS!

What if my 32 GB will run Wii games just fine and it will not run gamecube games but if I use my 4gb flash both work just fine and off my SD card both work just fine. Does this mean my USB isn't supported and that's what's causing the issue?

it depends which method and loader you use to play Gamecube games.
each loaders have different requirements on hardware and settings.

• V8
latest stable release

• v9 (beta)
Adds Port1 support, simultaneous Dual port support, more HDD supports, less EmuNAND compatibility.

• v10 ("never released as stable", but stable)
V10 is a fusion of v8 + v9, but exists in two versions:
- v10 (rev 52): More HDD support, same EmuNAND compatibility as v8.
- v10-alternative (rev 53): More HDD support, Port1 support, Dual port support, less EmuNAND compatibility than v8.

To resume:
V10 (rev52) = v8 with better HDD support. If your HDD is working in v8, you don't need to update.

If you want dual port support, you need rev53, but you'll have a less stable EmuNAND.
I recommend users to install v8 or v10 beta52 (while most guides tell users to install beta 53 because it's the latest revision! but that's wrong, it should depend on the user's need and understanding)

Of course if you are on vWii, you need v10.
Never install any version lower than v10 on vWii.

You can check the comparison chart here:
https://code.google.com/p/d2x-cios/wiki/How_to_choose_d2x_distribution

Thanks for sharing this perfect information!!

I am about to upgrade from v8 to V10 (52) to see if I can get my USBLoader to read new games (I can only get the Water Sports Wbfs file to work). I tried Party and Monopoly from the DVD and I'm unable to get them to work :(
I either get a blank screen or the 9 channel preview screen that then goes to the start again.

Can anyone confirm that the V10 will do the job? (I tried forcing the game loader to PAL...and changing the IOS from 249 to 250)

Many thanks in advance!!

the cIOS is responsible for HDD compatibility, not game's compatibility.
v8 should be able to play all games.

Some games might require different base (IOS56, IOS57, IOS58), or a specific setting in your loader (video, patches, block IOS reload, etc.)

Hi there, I'm new to all this stuff and I don't fully understand it.

I have this same problem - Not all of my games work using USBLoaderGX. Some do, sometimes, but most do not.

I used DOP-Mii and since reading and re-reading this thread have installed d2x v10 in a few places, but can't seem to fix the problem.

What am I doing wrong? Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm having some problems related to playing Wii games in USB Loader GX (latest version). Every time I try to load a Wii game, the loader shows a permanent black screen which requires a restart of the console. The hard drive is being read and the games show up just like they normally would, but they don't run. The HDD is connected to the bottom (equals left in a vertical console position) USB port on the Wii.

I've tried to install the games on the HDD (Smash Bros. Brawl amongst others) using retail disks in USB Loader GX, which created a wbfs folder on the root of the hard drive. Wii Backup Manager verifies the .wbfs files inside that folder without hassle.

I'm using the same partition for my Gamecube games (32k cluster size), which all work just fine. This a specific issue for the Wii games. The same game files have previously worked using a WBFS formatted partition through WBFS manager. USB Loader GX is the only loader I've tried.

Any insight regarding the matter is appreciated!
Try cfg usb loader (Google search: cfg usb loader)
Works for me

I brought a pre modded Wii a while ago now using an older HD it would occasionally fail to initialize when booting a game.

I upgraded the HD and everything was working fine. I then updated USBLoader GX while everything's working fine for the most part. Occasionally when playing Twilight or Skyword sword when exiting a building or if a new area is loading in the game the screen will stay black and I have to unplug the Wii. I thinking maybe the drive is idling and isn't waking up as it doesn't happen all the time.

It's annoying if I haven't saved recently.

Your syscheck looks fine. Do you have another storage drive you could try? You didn't mention what it was but some of them just don't work with the USB stack on the Wii.

Hello,
I've been having similar problems with my Wii so instead of making a new topic I thought I'd just joint you guys here.
I'm using an 128GB pendrive formatted to FAT32 with a wbfs folder inside where I store Wii games backups. When I try to turn on the games USB Loader GX gets me back to the Wii main menu same goes with Usb loader and when I try using Configurable USB loader mod it says wbfs error : bad magic. I've been trying many solutions and nothing so far has helped. I don't know if it makes a difference but one game in particular gives me the black screen when I try to run it using Loader GX. I'm running 4.3E

Your WBFS files are corrupted if you're getting that error. Try redumping one of the bad ones and see if it works. If it's still not working your flash drive may not be compatible. They're not very reliable on a Wii. Physical HDDs are much better.

Nothing in your SysCheck looks like it should be causing an issue.

Try checking them with Wii Backup Manager. It should let you know if they're readable at least even though it can only compare checksums to ones that you've previously generated.

Hey guys, I'm having the same trouble as OP was with loading WiiWare games. The blue light blinks and then I get the black screen.

I used d2x cIOS installer to install d2x rev10 beta53 to slot 249 but still nothing happens. I'm using a Lexar 32GB USB 3.0 USB drive. I just want to play these games! :(

P.S.: Some of the games I tried out by installing them to my realNAND come up as "corrupted" when I try launching them from the emuNAND on my USB drive.

Hello all,

Old man and Wii lover here.

I modded me Wii 100 years ago and after reading this thread I checked my Loader GX.

It shows Rev874 IOS222 (REV 4)!

I'd always just assumed some games don't work and now I know I'm wrong.

Can somebody point me in the right direction so I can get my Wii hacks up to date.

I have a black Wii with homebrew, priiloader installed.

Many thanks

Zoot

So.. I had a go at updating my Wii hacks.
I ran modmii.
Reinstalled HBC
Installed All Wads
Then I used d2x-cios-installer to install v53 alt to 249
V52 to slot 250.

But I'm still getting the black screen problem!

Any ideas guys?

Good afternoon.

I'm having some trouble loading Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii U's vWii emulation after having installed it to a Seagate Backup Plus Slim Portable HDD (1TB). I'm using the homebrew program USBLauncher GX and the game itself launches fine when I try and play it using the disk, but it just doesn't want to boot up when launched from the HDD. I'd happily give my system specs if it can help people figure out my issue, but am currently unsure how to go about obtaining them. I know I'm booting using d2x-v10-beta53-alt-vWii, and slot 249, however.

EDIT:
Tested booting some other games, and everything else loads fine. Wonder what the issue could be?
