It's not possible to have the NNID on two machines simultaneously. Using a service that requires an NNID on the firmware restored device will disconnect your NNID and invalidate/delete all purchased eshop applications.

That was I thought, but I did not want to test by myself without knowing if I can revert the system transfer.

Yes, you can system transfer back after a week, but you won't end up with two simultaneously
Edit: The devices will both play games, both will not have NNID simultaneously.

i have to switch to another 3DS XL as mine allready has dust under the top screen after one week of usage.
My question is, do I have to consider anything with my savegames, especially Pokémon Y and Animal crossing? Is it enough to backup the sd Card and leave the gateway card as it is, to play on with my savegames, once the new 3DS XL arrives.
Edit: I have emundand setup on 8.1 with the newest 2.3b

assuming the new 3ds is also 4.x, all you will need to do is follow the install instructions again i.e run the clue card installer set up emunand etc, then just copy all the .sav files from the other 3ds's SD card onto the new SD card
you cant use the old SD card with your old emunand set up, it needs to be a new emunand set up for that specific console

I feel really stupid for asking this, but I haven't been caught up with the gateway scene as I previously used to. I tried looking around for the answer but they were all pretty outdated.

No, it's multi-ROM now.
It's not rocket science. Just boot into Gateway mode, then go to settings, make sure the "GW3D" is there by the firmware number, and update. Just like that.
Not sure, it doesn't seem like a lot of retail saves are compatible with Gateway at this time, especially if they're less than 512kb.
multi-rom was added in 2.1
other things you have likely missed, online support,homebrew support,7.x encryption solved,game card dumping, cart save dumping/writing and emunand working on latest FW again (8.1)

didnt follow a guide, but its the same process as always, look for any guide to updating emunand
and nope if the game was played on a properly updated console, yes if it was played in classic mode, you just dump the rom via the gateway menu and rename it to .3dz and your save will be built in
slightly ninja'd....but i think mine was a little bit more clearer

. Still debating on buying another 4.x 3DS for region-free (currently have a 6.x 3DS that I'm probably gonna update soon to play Prof. Layton vs. AA which needs 7.x grrr), but I mean Nintendo's doing a pretty good job of bringing a lot of great games.
Do you need a standard SD card in the 3DS just for installing the gateway, or does it need to be in there all the time? Trying to find out if I need to get one specifically for 3DS use or if I can just use my camera's one for the install.
If it was played on a 6.x console you can't use the save
Hasn't happened for a long time, it was dodgy laucher files, except one person recently who was actually trying to hack the new launcher
You need one in at all times for the launcher,saves, and if you want emunand that takes up 1gb of space
Also, I watched a video on the installation of EmuNAND and the guy said it formats all the files, but the Launcher.dat is on the SD card too, right? If that's the case, how does Gateway work after that? Is it creating a partition but keeping the Launcher.dat in there?
Well, I tried the community save too and it didn't load. I am following the steps exactly as I should. The ROM I rename to .3dz even shows as having the same data/serial etc as my original pokemon Y dump file, and the hex editor also shows that it's not just an empty ROM anymore. I tested my wifi via e-shop and connection test- it connects fine, so the problem isn't there, but if I try to go online on the renamed/updated pokemon X ROM, it gives me the 002-0123 error (cannot use online services with this game card) I really don't know what I'm doing wrong. Doing the same steps worked for my friend and he could go online, but it somehow didn't work for me
Hey, I have another question. What's the difference in 4.5.0-10 and -8? Like, why are there different versions?
