I still have my N64 from the days when it came out.
There were many a night of Mario Kart 64 played on this thing, and it still works great!

I don't have many games but in the spirit of GBATemp, I have one of these:

A Z64 backup unit. Sort of like a flash card for your N64.
Download the ROMs, put them on ZIP disks, put the disk in the Z64, play!

I still got my Pokemon Battle Pack Limited (?) Edition N64 (Not the ugly ass one with the big Pikachu on, the yellow&blue one with the decals up both sides) that I bought for my nipper on release cos he was (and still is to some extent) absolutely Pokemon batshit crazy.

practically every pawn shop here has a surplus of n64's .. it's kinda funny when a whole wall is covered with them.
I don't have a n64.. however i have a adaptoid.. and that's practically just as good imho.

yeah I've got the adaptoid too. With PJ64v1.6, youre right its just as good .... in some ways better. I just wish I could land 3 more of those without having to spend $$$$$ for them. I've seen where they've been selling on ebay for over $150 a pop.

I must admit I hardly play it and the only use I've gotten out of it lately is testing games... Still I couldn't ever think of parting with it!

I did get a N64 last year, never had one before. When they were released in the UK they were expensive so were the games.

Hey, same here !!
My first computer was a ZX Spectrum as well, got it in 1984.
I still play it quite a lot but only emulated.
And of course I have an N64 still perfectly functional and a brand new original N64 controller.
But I admit I like it better emulated on my PC, mostly for the Hi Res gfx and also because I use a GC controller with it, at least the rubber analog doesn't get too slippery !

Thanks a lot! It's actually pretty easy to do:

- Open the console (You'll probably need a special screwdriver for the Nintendo specific screws)
- Take it apart and tape all the parts you don't want to get painted, e.g. the PCB, controller ports, and so on
- Grab a Primer and 1-2 cans of Spray Paint (of course of whatever color you like) at a regular hardware supply store, and you're ready to go

That was actually just a test run for my Xbox Project:

(Paint Job, LED Light, Full HDD Modification with Evox Dashboard and quite a few Games on Disc

That could work, if you change your name to PlayStation Portable first. Actually, that would be a pretty kickass name to have, but people wouldn't believe you if you told them.

The 64 was definitely not my first console but up until a few years ago I played it quite often (marathon multiplayer perfect dark sessions usually taking the honours).
I wired my actual console up a few months ago and played again, I would like to believe I am not a graphics obsessive but even then I find the games have not aged well unlike 8/16 bit titles which are still fine to play (even more so now I can play them on the move).

I have however recently taken up playing the odd 64 game via an emulator which I find a far better route (not least of all becuase of high res texture replacement).

As for games they are still everywhere and damn cheap too, you probably will not even have to look too hard to find to "rarer" titles.
I will however suggest finding an official ram expansion as I have had nothing but issues from various 3rd part ones I have encountered.
Perfect dark was peak N64. Would hold up much better if the controls were dual stick.

I don't know why we are replying to a 16 year old thread but OK.
This would also have been some 4 years before the XBLA remake/port (also made available as part of the rare replay collection on xbone), which does have dual sticks (and works well, though the lack of a C button strafe made some things tricky for my usual play style) and a lot of other things going for it.

I can only hope the spate of N64 decompilations (Mario 64 and Zelda being the two most notable at this point) continues and we get Perfect Dark.

Yes, ray tracing on that one would be amazing. I dont like alot of the changes of the Xbla. The playable character suddenly asian?
