First off, read a couple of the posts here to see how happy I was when I first got my G6 Lite around July 26th.

I was one of the optimistic ones, happy to have a back-up device that I could use to revisit old classics and then some. I, like everyone else here who uses back up devices, know that I am inherently stealing from the pockets of game developers by using these devices. (Not so much with older games, but with newer games its definetly the case)

One could argue that the game developers aren't losing any money if you never bought the game in the first place, but that's exactly the case.. you never BOUGHT it, so that's money that never came to be. This excludes people who already own physical copies of the games they play. Anyway, back to my point:

For the first three weeks or so of owning my G6 Lite, I had no problems. I was wary of what people were saying about corruption and faulty cards, and I did my best to make sure that mine wouldn't end up that way.

From the first day I got my G6 Lite, I plugged it into the USB drive and the blue LED came up. "Cool.", I thought, and I was on my merry way.

After about three weeks or so, I start to get my first problems.

When I would open a door in 1st Haunted House level of New Super Mario Bros., the game would freeze. I tried patching the rom without Trim, and it worked fine. I thought I had found the solution to my problems.

Then, for some reason, Mario Kart DS would start freezing inadvertantly for no reason in the middle of an online game. At first I thought this was people just disconnecting at an opportune time, but after playing in single player and having the same problem occur, I realized that this was a very real problem. Since it only happend rarely, I didn't look much into it.

Fast forward to about 3 days before the release of Star Fox Command, and there is a whole new slew of problems. Now, the freezing doesn't just occur on Mario Kart DS, but on every other DS game that I have loaded in the try. If I jump in a cannon in Super Mario 64 DS, it freezes and the sound stutters continuously. If I try to swallow a baddy and create an egg, it freezes. Big Brain and Brain Age won't load. Tetris gets a black screen after selecting an option on the menu.

The boot-up sequence freezes at the TouchPod Menu, CONSTANTLY.

After downloading Star Fox Command and getting a white screen, I figure I mine as well update the Firmware, U-Disk, and Loader. BIG mistake. While I get Star Fox Command to work, it gets even MORE fucked up, and starts freezing at even REGULAR intervals.

Now fast forward to about two days earlier, and I can't even get the blue LED to come up on the damn USB burner. Windows recognizes that there is a device in the USB port, but it won't let me access the disk directly.

I have tried EVERYTHING to try and fix my G6 Lite:
-Rewritten roms without trimming
-Reloading the firmware and loader
-Using the most up to date U-Disk Manager
-Reformatting through Windows
-Reformatting through MPUtility.exe
-Disk defragmentation
-Classic "blowing air into the card", which, ironically, worked sometimes

In addition, I have ALWAYS:
-Been careful with my G6 Lite
-Used safely remove hardware before extracting it
-Charged my G6 Lite when it needed charging

The sad part is, throughout this entire time I have NEVER had a problem with the GBA portion of the cart. It's only the stupid TouchPod and NDS side that get fucked up. I tried reformatting the card again and trying to basically reinstall the card from scratch, but because I can't get the blue LED to light up I can't rewrite my games and saves onto the card, so I can't even use the GBA portion anymore.

At this point, I really don't think theres anything else I can do.

G6/M3 who are basically the same people, have disappointed me. It's like one side of the coin when it comes to their products are completely neglected. The G6 Lite works fine when you first get it. It will get fucked up in the long run.

The moral of the story:

1.) Don't buy some cheap ass chinese brand, because just like anything else that's made from China, it will get fucked up and break.

2.) Even though chinese dev kits are the only option, use SD-based media. USB based storage is too unstable.

3.) You get what you payed for. (And I payed the price. Just look at my earlier post in the link above.)

ouch....shouldn't be so hard on the g6 lite though, a lot of people are experiencing no problems with it. It works fine when it works....but when it goes wrong I found out it goes really wrong. Ticking time bomb in my opinion. Sorry to hear your tale of woes.

Dude, if it can happen to me, it can happen to anybody down the line. I never did anything out of negligence to get my G6 in the spot its at today.

This is bullshit that it had to happen to me in this way. I was just like any other curious onlooker until it happend to me.

The shark strikes at the opportune time, it likes to give its victims a false sense of hope.

Just because you got a faulty cart does not mean you should bad mouth the whole company... Look at things like the ps2, or xbox, or nintendo ds, all of those had all kinds of problems that were the fault of the company that made them and they are mega billion dollar companys. M3 is just some back alley company trying the best they can...

I've had my g6 for only like 2 weeks and have put it through every test I could think of TRYING to mess it up and it still works perfect.

Anyone looking to get a flash cart at this time, I highly suggest the g6 lite, it's a great product.

As to the "no blue light" problem. Have you tried changing the shell? Reason why I ask is that I ran into that problem when the original shell started to get a little loose and the PCB would move around more than it should and would not make good contact with the reader. the solution for me was to change out the shell. Sure, now I have a light blue cart in my white DS but it still reads fine. it may happen with that cart and then I will have to go to the black one but I will cross that bridge when I get to it. as to the lock up on the G6 Pad screen. it happens quite a bit to me too and i have not narrowed down the cause. It will happen after playing a game, I will hard reset it and sometimes not get the menu again. I do get it everytime after I have had it on the burner though.

heh....I'm all for the g6 just not for the g6 lite from my experience but honestly when you introduce interchangeable cases....you open up a serious can of worms. Perhaps they shouldn't of made it interchangeable and just made quantities of each color accordingly and make the cases/pcb permanently secure...this seems to cause some issues as well. But I agree, no need to bad mouth the product. If the product proves to have problems, we'll just see more and more g6 lite users complain down the road and will be inclusive. However, if it's just that the few people who's had a bad experience with the g6 lite, then it might just be manufacturing defect...which I don't find surprising @ all for a device such as this.

That's the point, I didn't start with a faulty card. It became a faulty card for reasons unknown to me.

Sony deserves what happens to them with their DRE's and crappy products.

Nintendo only recently started being sloppy with their cracked DS light hinges, I have a hairline crack near the top of my R button on my Polar White DS Lite but I'm not going to complain about that because the damage isn't superficial enough to warrant a complaint.

The damage with this card is.

As for everybody else, you will see more people with problems with their G6 Lites down the road. What the hell do you think happend to me? I bought a G6 Lite a month ago, and fast forward to now, which just happens to be "a little further down the road" and it's messed up.

Honestly, I'm desperate, I'm trying to find a solution for a problem I don't think I'll be able to solve. I don't like being able to solve my problems. I'm going to try unscrewing the case and cleaning the pins with the hope that it will work. What is the PCB?

At least when I complain I try to do stuff about it instead of just complaining like a regular lazy n00b.

Edit: Lazycus, I charged it when the battery in the tray would start blinking. Ironically, I would also get a Red LED on my Lite at the same time. So I charged them both and it would work.

no issues with mine either. My only gripe is that I can't play homebrew like DS Doom properly (saves etc) or DSOrganize.

Weej, I can't agree with you on all of your comments, however I have been researching for months before buying a DS flash cart. When the G6 Lite came around I thought it was the holy grail of carts and then a large number of folks on this board started bitching. This tells me that there's a quality issue here. From what I've read the G6 products have previously suffered from corruption issues, so it looks like the proof is in the pudding. Things haven't changed - and this is why I just bought an M3 Lite. Granted not everything about it is perfect, but it's damn near and I know it's not going to leave me high and dry, corrupting my saves after I put hours into a game. I'd rather know every time I play my NDS that my shits going to work rather then crossing my fingers every time I power it up.

To those of you who enjoy your G6 Lite and haven't had any problems...cheers to you; I hope you continue to have corruptionless success! For those of you who are considering G6 as your next purchase, make sure to do your research so that you are sure to make the right decision.

I wish I got something with SD based media now, too.

Right now I'm unscrewing my G6 Lite and cleaning the pins with the hope that the USB Burner will be able to detect it after I'm done. If I can do this successfully, I might be able to downgrade the firmware and basically start over.

Wish me luck.

Interesting. And I feel your loss.

Though, I have had my unit since the US launch and nothing has gone wrong for me.(EDIT: i meant seriously wrong)

I have never experienced the touchpod freezing. I have, however, experienced ONE lock up incident since the day I got it. While I was running animal crossing on Nintnedo Wifi with a friend in another state, my game just froze and requires a hardware reset. That was it. It never happened again... with any other game.

I'm still knocking on wood for that statement.

Though, I must add that with any electronic devices, there are bound to have defective units in any given production batch. It is unavoidable as there are always marginal errors in manufacturing. This even includes high profile companies. The difference here is that the G6 team doesn't have customer support(warranties)... at least as far as I know.

With all the commotions going on around the G6 Lite and the reputation of the maker. Myself, and many others I would assume, are under the impression that G6/M3 uses high quality materials to produce their products. Good built quality is what I was told. Though, I have always taken this with a grain of salt as this is a small chinese group/company after all. Corners are bound to be cut somewhere to reduce cost.

With all that said, I must disagree that this unfortunate problem of yours (OP) applies to all G6 products.

I would also like to point out a fact before everyone jumps on the bandwagon of baggin' the G6/M3 company... With the volume of G6 products sold to the public, most of what we actually see here are people with problems. It is sometimes easily mistaken by onlookers that this is all that to represent the G6 product line. So I'd just like to say that these threads represents only people with problems. The masses without any issues are probably else where enjoying the product. (Yes, I'm here because I'm bored at work

)

It is inevitable for companies to avoid sour products in mass production... and it sucks to be on the receiving end.

I feel your loss man. Maybe you can call the place u bought; email the G6 team? Perhaps they can give you a remedy.

Although I am sorry you are experiencing these problems, I due appreciate
you letting everyone know. I hate when a product is having major problems
& all it’s users feel they have to cover it up buy telling the user with the problem
that it’s there fault. The minute I saw my friends G6 get corrupted I knew there
would be big problems for him. The only solution I saw being posted here was
blaming the user with the problem. Saying he was not removing the unit properly
therefore corrupting the ram themselves. When I have never had to do a safe remove
with any USB device I have ever owned, & if you remove the unit while writing
then only the file that was being written to should be bad not all the Ram. And your
“you get what you pay for” saying can be true, it is not true here. The G6 is one of the
most expensive units out there. I can see you saying that about the SC because it’s so
inexpensive (although the SC has no ware near these problems) but not the G6. I hope
there is a permanent fix for your problem & not just a temporary ones like I have seen.

The only time my G6 Lite got corrupted was when I ran it through FATSort..

Other than that, no freezes at all and it'll probably be my GBA gaming cart when more Slot-1 solutions starts coming out..
