First off, read a couple of the posts here to see how happy I was when I first got my G6 Lite around July 26th.
I was one of the optimistic ones, happy to have a back-up device that I could use to revisit old classics and then some. I, like everyone else here who uses back up devices, know that I am inherently stealing from the pockets of game developers by using these devices. (Not so much with older games, but with newer games its definetly the case)
One could argue that the game developers aren't losing any money if you never bought the game in the first place, but that's exactly the case.. you never BOUGHT it, so that's money that never came to be. This excludes people who already own physical copies of the games they play. Anyway, back to my point:
For the first three weeks or so of owning my G6 Lite, I had no problems. I was wary of what people were saying about corruption and faulty cards, and I did my best to make sure that mine wouldn't end up that way.
From the first day I got my G6 Lite, I plugged it into the USB drive and the blue LED came up. "Cool.", I thought, and I was on my merry way.
After about three weeks or so, I start to get my first problems.
When I would open a door in 1st Haunted House level of New Super Mario Bros., the game would freeze. I tried patching the rom without Trim, and it worked fine. I thought I had found the solution to my problems.
Then, for some reason, Mario Kart DS would start freezing inadvertantly for no reason in the middle of an online game. At first I thought this was people just disconnecting at an opportune time, but after playing in single player and having the same problem occur, I realized that this was a very real problem. Since it only happend rarely, I didn't look much into it.
Fast forward to about 3 days before the release of Star Fox Command, and there is a whole new slew of problems. Now, the freezing doesn't just occur on Mario Kart DS, but on every other DS game that I have loaded in the try. If I jump in a cannon in Super Mario 64 DS, it freezes and the sound stutters continuously. If I try to swallow a baddy and create an egg, it freezes. Big Brain and Brain Age won't load. Tetris gets a black screen after selecting an option on the menu.
The boot-up sequence freezes at the TouchPod Menu, CONSTANTLY.
After downloading Star Fox Command and getting a white screen, I figure I mine as well update the Firmware, U-Disk, and Loader. BIG mistake. While I get Star Fox Command to work, it gets even MORE fucked up, and starts freezing at even REGULAR intervals.
Now fast forward to about two days earlier, and I can't even get the blue LED to come up on the damn USB burner. Windows recognizes that there is a device in the USB port, but it won't let me access the disk directly.
I have tried EVERYTHING to try and fix my G6 Lite:
-Rewritten roms without trimming
-Reloading the firmware and loader
-Using the most up to date U-Disk Manager
-Reformatting through Windows
-Reformatting through MPUtility.exe
-Disk defragmentation
-Classic "blowing air into the card", which, ironically, worked sometimes
In addition, I have ALWAYS:
-Been careful with my G6 Lite
-Used safely remove hardware before extracting it
-Charged my G6 Lite when it needed charging
The sad part is, throughout this entire time I have NEVER had a problem with the GBA portion of the cart. It's only the stupid TouchPod and NDS side that get fucked up. I tried reformatting the card again and trying to basically reinstall the card from scratch, but because I can't get the blue LED to light up I can't rewrite my games and saves onto the card, so I can't even use the GBA portion anymore.
At this point, I really don't think theres anything else I can do.
G6/M3 who are basically the same people, have disappointed me. It's like one side of the coin when it comes to their products are completely neglected. The G6 Lite works fine when you first get it. It will get fucked up in the long run.
The moral of the story:
1.) Don't buy some cheap ass chinese brand, because just like anything else that's made from China, it will get fucked up and break.
2.) Even though chinese dev kits are the only option, use SD-based media. USB based storage is too unstable.
3.) You get what you payed for. (And I payed the price. Just look at my earlier post in the link above.)
