Hello all.

I'm Jayenkai, and I'm old and set in my ways.
If I find something that works, I tend to stick with it, and will happily reinstall old decrepit development kits if it means I'm in my comfort zone.
For the most part, I can do this without any worries, as things tend to stay compatible through the ages, but with DS Homebrew, we hit the ever-increasing number of brick walls, laid out by Nintendo.
Grrr..

I do love doing DS Brew, though, mostly because IT HAS BUTTONS!!! (Although, seems Apple might finally be coming up with some sort of proper nice Game Controller support.. Fingers crossed!!)

Anyway, a certain somebody's been meithering me on Twitter for the past couple of weeks, so I've decided to give this all a whirl once again.

I could do with some tests, first, though.
Since I'm using the same development kit, my end resulting rom will (*should!) be identical in methods to my previous efforts, so I'd like as many people as possible to try one of my previous games, to check if they can still get them to work.

There's a nice varied selection http://jayenkai.socoder.net/GameList.php?&System=NDS available Here, with the most recent being up top.

I'd like anyone and everyone to grab something from the list (preferably either Sheep Goes Left, since that's the most recent one, or JNKPlat DS08 since that's the bestest!!!!) stick it onto their DS/otherwise using whatever their preferred current method is, and let me know if it does or doesn't work.

For the record : If you generally can't manage to get any homebrew working, that sort of response isn't going to be helpful! I'm only looking to check that everything I'm about to do will work on as many devices as possible, for those who already know what they're doing in the first place.

.. and with that, I'll get back to writing my game.

Let me know how you get on.

Using a DS Lite (v5 firmware) and an Acekard 2i. AKAIO help screen reads "AKAIO v1.7 | HW: 81 | SVN: 892" (I inserted the pipes for clarity).

I've had no problems running Arcade Slots, CardAgain, and Sheep Goes Left (the .nds version inside the WithSave folder).

Sheep Goes Left appears to have the wrong name embedded into the ROM, though; it says that it's SpikeDislike on my Acekard, because I have it set to use internal names rather than filenames. Maybe that's just the card being derpy, though. It also occasionally flickers a bit on the top screen when I get a new level and the sections move in opposite directions, but that's probably not an issue.

Arcade Slots has a spiffy little icon that goes along with the ROM. The others don't. In the future, it'd be a lot more convenient to figure out which ROM to play if you added icons (especially if the internal game name is going to be off! :P).

It's a hassle putting game on my flashcart sense I have no form of adapter, but I'm on the case. I'll report back on this post with my findings. I will let you know I am using a Regular 3DS on it's highest firmware using a Supercard DSTWO on its highest firmware (naturally) on a 4GB card (if that matters).

HEHE. =P

JNKPlat works great on my AK2i/R4/R4i Gold/AK2 but my DSi is running an old firmware (1.4.1), so.... i am pretty sure that bit of info isn't all that helpful.

At first I thought this thread must be very old, because some of this brew has been around for a very long time. I think I've tried each one of them before when I first discovered them and all of them work. I have an EZ-Flash 5 and a CycloDS.

Great to hear you're still working on DS homebrew, too! Any info about your new project?

I 'REALLY' hope this is a conversion of NeonPlat Adventures. That game is something else,a true Mario or Sonic for the PC users of the world make no mistake.
For those who have yet to try Adventures,.......DO IT...LEARN IT....LOVE IT....its a gem.

re. DS Jayenkai, no problems with any of them running an R4 card.Regularly play the compilation with frogger etc and NeonPlat DS.

Thanks James,looking forward to this.

ps.Neon Raw turned out pretty decent tho most of your new games have no full screen option....any reason?

No extensive testing, but some quick game-trials here and everything is working as expected. Played some Blockman Gets, Sheep Goes Left, and JNKPlat on DSiXL/3DS w/latest firmwares. My flashcard of choice is DSTwo using BAGPlug menu (which uses Homebrew Menu to launch teh homebrews).
Just to note, one nice thing about 'brews built with the latest devkit is that it has a hb soft-reset protocol (l+r+start+select) that is quite useful.

Looking forward to what you've got cookin' =)

p.s. i think there's something wrong, cuz my my sheep wont go right, lol. j/k

Many thanks for the further testing.

I've set myself a release date of July 30th.
It might be a little bit too optimistic, given I've not yet even started work on the thing, properly, but.. Hey, that's what I do!!

There's a whole lot of work to be done!!

NeonPlat Adventures is HUGE!!! Can't imagine myself getting all of that working as well on a DS. It was hard enough attempting it on iOS (unfinished, unreleased!!)

The lack of Fullscreen option is due to the change in language I'm using. The language itself (Monkey) lacks the function to switch in realtime, but is currently being overhauled to hopefully allow for this in the future. I'm keeping an eye on it, and will be updating things once that option's working correctly.

Not sure what the issue might be, there.. Have you tried holding the DS upside down?
