Sony best not screw Europe with the price. i could understand £350 for the xbox one but £429 is taking the piss. Hopefully it will get ignored till a price drop, don't really care about the xbox but cheap xbox = competitively priced ps4

To be fair to some of the companies, a lot of the time it's the 20% vat here that gets us :(.

Comparing like for like (no tax, just like the us prices are listed) the wiiu and kinect bundle are cheaper here. £251 ($391) for the kinect and wiiu is £224 ($350). No excuse on the ps3 though, that's just priced massively higher.

Even the xbone is not priced that much more without VAT, only $56 more.

On the subject on that, why does everyone compare pre-tax US prices, to post-tax UK prices, then claim X company is ripping us off, rather than government is ripping us off with the 20% VAT.

Cool, I did forget US prices are always pre-tax. Tax is so low in the US. Got to hate that living in the UK.

To be fair, I dont think that its Microsoft screwing over us here in the UK as much as its our own government and sticking things like taxes on taxes. Its been like this a long time and I thought it was companies like Sony, MS and Ninty doing us over until I did a bit of research on it. Go and give earache to Mr Cameron if you really want to have your say at the man responsible for over inflated prices.

However, I still see absolutely no reason why they couldnt do a kinect-less version of the console for say £100 less. Im not buying one anyway because of the price and the restricted features but they could have included a "core" machine as it were for people who dont give two shits about waving their arms in front of the screen playing with a pretend baby lion or tiger or whatever Kinectimals is.

Some of us are adults for god sake, and just want to sink beer, play games after a day at the office getting balled out by a knobhole boss etc. We dont all care for this stuff.

are you guys really complaining about $500 being too much!?!?!? 6 years ago, PS3 launched for $600 and people still bought it.

STFU, stop complaining, and don't buy one if you don't like the price!

Epic fail of the day: "Xbone is too expensive, I'll buy a PS4!!!"

Just wait for sony prices and see...

Edit: Now you see why Wii U is so underpowered?

The thing is, even if the PS4 comes out at exactly the same price point, it still looks the sweeter deal (at the moment.) Your not being forced to use a gimmick like kinect, you have (on paper at least) superior hardware, which will make a difference in Sony exclusives, and if some kind of Playstation Plus finds its way over to the PS4, youve already got an online service that rivals if not now surpasses that of Xbox Live. So much so that M$, kind as they are offered 2 games a month, but only until the release of the XBone. So that will be what, 12 games that they will offer, and pretty much will be games that everyone has already been through or that can be had for 2 quid out the bargain bin. It looks like a good gesture, but you can be sure its one thats costs them next to no money to push out. Happy days.

You guys are kidding, right?

It is a BRAND NEW, cutting-edge console. Of course it's going to be expensive. FFS

Sure they could make it $300, but then you'd have the WiiU, and you'd be complaining about lack of "graphics" instead.

Or maybe they could have left out all this 'talk to your cable box, use internet explorer while managing your fantasy team and skyping a midget" shit that no-one cares about and 90% of the planet can't even use to its full potential.

You realize that the technology to do this required nothing more than extra RAM? The Xbox One OS and the Windows OS are running as VM's inside a hypervisor. That extra functionality probably incurred such a miniscule increase in hardware costs that it's negligible.

Also, Microsoft is an American company. What did you expect? Just like Sony is a Japanese company and they definitely cater to their Japanese audience.

I can't believe some people are surprised by this. It was obviously going to be $450 or up, if you think of the hardware/software including the controller & kinect thats not a bad price but it is regardless a lot of money.

So the price tag, not horribly surprising, but very unappealing to the average consumer in this day. When it comes to Europe, I'm sure many will be passing on buying it simply due to the large price difference compared to the US. As it stands, this is a very US-oriented product, and will likely tank hard in Japan (I can't see more than a few million sales at best during its lifetime). I doubt it will do great in Europe. I can't see it being successful anywhere but here in the US, and even that is questionable with the amount of competition Microsoft has created for this console by mixing it into several different markets.

At $499, I'd imagine this is Microsoft trying to make a profit on every console sold in order to make the endeavor at least remotely worthwhile. I feel like they're going to end up learning the harsh lesson Sony learned last gen though. The price may not be as high as the PS3 was, and hell, it may do substantially more, but the average consumer will still see a $500 TV box with some video game functions and wonder why the hell they should buy it. The average consumer isn't going to recognize the level of tech inside. They're going to see it on a basic level, and that basic level likely won't justify a $500 price tag.

If Sony opt to go the PS2 route to success and aim to get a console in every home via a lower hardware price (made up for by market penetration) and allowing used games the same way we're used to today (enabling even greater market share) then i can't see how they won't romp home over MS.

What I dont get is, I've read in numerous places now that because Microsoft have "done it" regarding used games etc and DRM, then Sony will follow.

Why on earth do Sony have to follow? If they give details tonight on a console that undercuts Microsofts price and allows games to trade exactly like this generation then I cant see how they can lose?

Yes, it may kick up a stink with certain devs and producers etc who are just greedy little shits but so what? You know full well that once the install base of the PS4 started to go up million by million, that games developers and producers, no matter how much they spat their dummies out the pram at the start, would soon want a piece of the pie! And seeing that it SHOULD be easier this generation to develop multiplats side by side with Xbox1, its an easier decision to make.

come on Sony, make everyone love you again and do the right thing

$600 was way too much back in the day, the PS3 didn't take off until they lowered the prices down to $400 if you remember ?
the PS3 was launched in 2006 for $600 and just one year later (2007) price dropped to $400 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_launch

I would never buy a console this expensive. Back then the PS3 price tag was a huge blow and also one of the major reasons I got a 360 (I got mine for $200, the retail price was $250 when I bought it, but I had a discount coupon)

Microsoft are really dragging the market downards to shitty standards, pretty sure Sony will follow, after all they did start the trend with the PS3. I still hope.
