Hacking WiiFlow - an open source GUI USB-Loader

Hey Fix, I'm having a problem with the genre on the game info screen. It only displays the right genre for the first game. After that all other games are the same genre. So if I look at mario kart it says genre: racing and then every game after that is a racing game even though it's not. Anyone else have this problem or is it just me? I did update my wiitdb.xml recently.

Also i noticed it doesn't give the full genre. there's lots of action and simulation games but it doesn't say action adventure or simulation first person shooter.

Does it let you actually PLAY those games off of USB? Showing them in WiiFlow would be simple but the BC basically shuts down the USB before passing control on to the MIOS (whether that MIOS is DML, a normal MIOS, cMIOS or whatever) so I was under the impression that that wasn't even really feasible. At best I think it would take some SERIOUS rethinking of how DML is put together before it could actually be approached...maybe a cBC and/or trying to cram a USB module onto DML and fit it into gamecube's memory space. It's more an issue with DML by all means, not a limitation with WiiFlow.

Edit: If they do ever pull that off, while they're at it, it would be cool if they could get the Bluetooth working and have the gamecube controls emulated from a classic controller. That way the new wii's that have all gamecube function removed could use DML, too.

It copies them to SD and launches them from there, it works actually if u have free space on ur SD

That does sound pretty cool! Doesn't it take a long time to copy it over each time, though?

Edit: I actually did think of doing that manually at one time with Swiss and WiiXplorer but copying it over each time at the speed of an SD gecko IS definitely too slow so I was just saving up my feeble earnings to get a hold of a 32gb SDHC for DML.

Thanks Fix94 for continuing development of Wiiflow! I have been away for some time and I didn't have much hope for the future of Wiiflow, so returning here to see your excellent mod really made me happy. Thanks a lot

I had recently been liking more and more what I've been hearing about postloader. Here's one more reason for me to want to replace the good old Homebrew Channel with it.

Edit: or I could just wait until WiiFlow incorporates the feature and replace my system menu with WiiFlow.

whoa, i wasnt aware of this. so basically you can have your GC backups stored on the usb and it temporarily copies over the selected game to the SD before launching it with DML?? that sounds pretty awesome. how long is the wait?

ah thanks for posting that. man.. but it takes 4 and a half minutes to copy over and load a 600mb GC backup yeeesh. its still a pretty cool option to have though

Does anyone have Kirby’s Return to Dreamland and The Smurf’s Dance Party working with the current version (r418) of WiiFlow. If so please share the config you are using.

Neither have played for some time in WiiFlow but work perfectly using CFG. I've tried multiple copies (NTSC and PAL) but they both hang in WiiFlow. I was using the d7 cIOS's but just updated to the d8beta but it's is the exact same results.

I tried auto settings as well as each IOS and other options but nothing seems to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I hate having to use CFG for just those 2 games.

so starting with rev35 of DML (i have tried r35 and r38) and around rev 101 or so of the open wiiflow mod by you Fix it doesn't have a gamecube section for me.

for some reason to some user`s(like me) the gc button ''just disapear''
therefore the gc games are not shown

the only way to show the gc games is forcing the loader to show the gc games first.

editing these lines in the source

m_current_view = COVERFLOW_DML;

so any ideas or suggestions on how to solve the problem with the gc button not showing?

i did test with neogamma and it works fine, i played a game. i just updated to rev106 of wiiflow and r38 of DML but wiiflow still doesn't enable me to look at GC games. i don't mind having it start at the GC section so maybe I'll just add that line and have it start there.
