I know that on the DSi, music in Nintendo DSi Sound can't play while it's closed, but I'm not sure this applies to Nintendo 3DS. Does anyone tried to play music in Nintendo 3DS Sound while the 3DS is closed? The closed 3DS in a pocket would be nice when listening to music instead of the opened one.

You can, but it's not necessarily without doing damage. If you place it on top of a DSi while it's closed it will get out of sleep mode (and vise versa). This will allow you to play music with it closed. I did it once for about an hour (or 30 minutes) and noticed no changes, but still, since we're dealing with magnets, proceed with caution. Note that this is not recommended and if you do try it, don't do it for an extended amount of time.

Both the DSI and 3DS (as well as DSI XL) can play music with the lid closed. As said earlier you must have headphones installed when doing so. What I do is I use an 8mm patch cord and run it to a big stereo at work. So I use it as an .mp3 player. I fill the card with music and set it to random play close the lid and it plays for about 5 hours at work. So between the 5 hours and the breaks I get I use it all day then charge it when I get home.

If you want to play music while the 3DS is closed, then just buy a mini speaker that has a headphone jack. Or get a cable that can convert any speaker jack into a headphone jack. (Sorry, I don't know the actual names of the chords.)

Thanks guys for the information. I gonna try that later to hear if the music is still playing when my 3DS is closed (with/without headphones).

EDIT: I can now confirm that the music in Nintendo 3DS Sound is still playing when the 3DS is closed only with headphones on. Without headphones the music stops playing when the 3DS is closed because it goes to sleep mode. I tried that already with my 3DS. So thanks guys for answering my question!

Oh, I was assuming they knew it could play closed with headphones q:.

So yeah, that's the most practical method. Attaching speakers works well, too, as mrtimotei said.
