I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that Microsoft officials said "720 is not the name of our next product" in a "this is the stupidest idea ever, who's idea was this?" kind of way.

Following Microsoft's logic, why the hell was it called Xbox 360? inb4 "because when you see it, you turn 360 degrees and moonwalk away"

they can make it as powerful as they want gfx have hit a wall right now even on the pc and won't look any different than to what they are now. only thing that will change is maybe they'll get the ps4/720 games running at 60 fps :P

this gens consoles is pretty much gonna be identical to each other with maybe a few features different the only thing that will seperate them this gen is the games

...you wanted to say "1500 shovelware titles", "10 interesting first-party titles" and "15 interesting third-party titles", all in 3 distinct regions. And before you go all "Durr, herp derp, that's a lie!", I do have a Wii and I've played tons of games for it. I know what I'm talking about.
Your posts indicates that you don't.

Besides PS3 was more powerful than 360...and there it sits in 3rd place even with great games and a price cut.

I still prefer PS3 over XB360 and Wii any day. Mainly due to the interface and quickness of everything. What sucks tho is the requirement to update games when trying to start them.

I love that every gamer thinks that every other gamer (or at least most) cares only for graphics, and that it always seems to end in shouting wars where everyone tells everyone else what they think.

On topic, I think we should wait for some official announcements first before we start the flamewar. I enjoy a good argument, but it's a bit silly when it's entirely based on speculation and hearsay.
We're on a console gaming site. If anyone here cared about graphics they'd be gaming on a custom PC.

People get the idea that everyone else only cares about graphics from... real life. There's a reason that Call of Duty and related games sell so well time after time after time. The average gamer is a total moron.

Except that the Call of Duty games are not great graphically. They aren't terrible looking, by any means, but they've been working with about the same engine since 4, and it shows. If graphics were all people cared about, then Battlefield 3 would have made the $775 million worldwide in its first five days.

Also, this hatred for the Call of Duty games baffles me. Maybe it's just hype backlash or a kind of "gamer elitism", but seriously, it's getting a bit tiring. Are the games perfect? God no. Do they deserve their wild success? While I would love it if some other, better franchise had these crazy sales numbers (The Mass Effect series, anything by Tim Schafer, etc.), these games are fine enough (Except for 4 and BLOPs, which were pretty great in their own right); I don't begrudge their success.

But calling the audience for these games morons? People buy them because they provide a fun and easy to pick up multiplayer experience that can they share with their friends. I'm sorry that's so horrible.

#Clearly the 720 is going to by better than the PS4. Its gone through 720 iterations.# That's gonna be the thoughts of the uninformed. Believe me, my mum thought the exact same thing. Its time to teach "normal" people that "Bigger number ≠ Better product".

I'm not saying that my purchase of the Wii was pointless - it has its fair share of games and OBVIOUSLY I didn't count every single good one in the equation, it was a FAIRLY ACCURATE APROXIMATION though, and I doubt that a whole lot of Wii owners will disagree with me when I say that Wii games are either marvelous or complete crap.

Who cares. The same thing is going to happen next gen like it did this gen. Both consoles get the exact same fucking games while Nintendo's console will be the only one with original games.

There are certainly more than 10 interesting first-party titles and 15 interesting third-party titles.

Oh, that's why COD is selling several million the first week.
Sheep following whats popular, seems to me that the casual gamers are the ones who grab those games. Like the ones who buy the latest FIFA, NFS and maybe something that is hyped like BF3 etc but don't quite follow gaming like us here do and probably wont buy any more than a few games a year.

There are worse games that could sell millions of course, at least MW3 was good to play unlike the dreadful two before it.

A lot of those are pretty mediocre but to make up there are a lot of games missing from that list, especially with WiiWare and the Japanese only.

Guess I'm having problems trying to remember them - all I thoroughly enjoyed on the Wii was Sonic Colours, No More Heroes 1 and 2, Fatal Frame, The Calling, GoldenEye, CoD games out of lack of better shooters to play online (can be easily counted as 1 game - they're basically mission packs to eachother, really), MadWorld (to the extent of enjoying the novelty, but never really finished the game), Gutar Hero 5 and 3 (because I could mod them and play the Power Rangers theme and because my girlfriend loves'em XD) and Trauma Center/Trauma Team. The rest of the games I played were either very "myeh", I can't recall them or I didn't care for them at all.

On the otherhand I DO HAVE a very high standard of what constitutes a "good" game, so I'm inclined to believe you soulx. Besides, "good game" is a subjective term. (This is where you recommend me good Wii games and I try them out).

PlayStation 4's early technical specifications are looking "more powerful" than those of Microsoft's next-generation Xbox targets, according to PSM3's development sources.

The mag cites sources suggesting that Microsoft's machine will beat Sony's to market "if only by months".

PSM3's sister mag, Xbox World, publishes a similar source-digging next-gen special in its issue out on the same day, claiming that the next Xbox will ship in late 2013 with a PowerPC-based processor from IBM and 'Kinect 2.0' out of the box.

The latter matches up with previous reports, and according to Xbox World it's one reason PS4's looking like it might outperform 360's successor in the processing department.

With its next console Microsoft is looking to focus on "utility and innovation," the report says.

According to the trade mag, Sony and Microsoft have both indicated to third-parties that they'll be showing off their next-generation machines at the Los Angeles show, spoiling Nintendo's Wii U re-reveal in the process.

This won't mean much for anything except for exclusives since multi-plats are made for the lowest common denominator which in this case would be the next Xbox (unless the Wii U is comparable in power).

I just don't for see this spoiling Nintendo unveiling of the Wii U console since we did get to see the system at last years E3. Remember its the games that people want to see and play, sure the system is important but the system isn't going to sell its self no matter what Nintendo, Sony or Microsoft stick in it seriously. Nintendo is taking this years show by storm you can put your money on that, They'll have tons more games and probably new IP's to show off and way more time for companies to develop games to be shown off at this years E3. So what if Sony's PS4 has faster processing they clearly haven't learnt anything from there past mistakes with the PSP or PS3, I know the 360 and PS3 are pretty close in a technical stand point, but when its all said an done games look and feel better on the 360.

Why do people think that if they like something mainstream, they're just being "sheep"? Guess me and many other nintendo fans are sheep, for liking Zelda?

I never really got why people think Nintendo are the masters of "exclusive IPs" (or why they even mattered over just having a good game) when Sony has proved that they can deliver plenty of exclusive IPs (see the Playstation 2). Also, exclusivity doesn't matter when being so "exclusive" means alienating yourself from an entire generation of phenomenal multiplats. I'd take the multiplats of this generation over Nintendo exclusives any day. It's not like they're getting a "best of both worlds" deal here, they're alienating one sector that they could easily not alienate by simply making a more powerful console with more universal controls. It's sad when it's basically a catch between all these "HD titles" and "Nintendo titles" when they can't be one and the same. And don't think the Wii U will be in on this multiplat game now, they've still missed like 5 solid years of titles that they probably won't get and god forbid if the "PS4" and "Xbox 720" are significantly more powerful than it, in which case it'll be another "Wii to everything else" situation.

This. With one objection - it's unlikely that the XBox720/PS4(tentative titles) might be significantly more powerful then the WiiU for the simple reason that there isn't much of a curve right now when it comes to resources - the PS3 *may* launch just about any game, be it console or PC without much chocking and the 360 isn't far behind. Seeing that the WiiU is supposed to be 1,5 as powerful as a PS3 then... well, even if there is a significant gap between the three, it will not affect the end products. At all.

As far as Nintendo's exclusive titles, it's one thing to have IP's that are nice and original and completely another to choose to release them for "their own consoles only". Nintendo's strategy is basically "if you want to play our games, you have to own one of our systems", which is ridiculous since their hardware and software departments are completely separate.

Sony released titles (admittedly in the past...) not only for the PlayStations but also for the PC and... of all possible choices, Windows Mobile, which showes that they at least *tried* to be multiplat with their software and reach distant audiences. A simple example of this could be the Everquest series which *completely dominated* the MMORPG genre before anybody even envisioned "World Of Warcraft" (which is by the way the scourge of the genre, the equivalent of Call of Duty in FPS'es). Another instance of extending their hand towards the end-user is for example the PlayStation suite. Sony's very much aware that not everyone may be interested in owning their home consoles, or even their hanhelds, this they're trying to create a platform-neutral envioriment in which certain certified devices from the palmtop/smartphone/tablet range will be capable of launching their software.

As far as Microsoft is concerned - we know they release for Windows aswell, even if with massive delays, so there.

Nintendo on the otherhand clings to this superstition from the 80'ties that the Cold War is a Good War and release their games for their devices and their devices only, literally hogging a whole lot of licensed franchises. "If you wanna play Nintendo, you need to be Nintendo" is the trend that alienated alot of people from their blockbuster games because lots of gamers simply *refused* to buy a DS or a Wii. I personally know a long-term fan of Zelda who thoroughly enjoyed OOT and Majora's Mask, but never played any later games simply because he found the Wii "far behind today's standards and too wiggly-waggly WiiMote'ey" and instead opted for the XBox360, never turning back.

Imagine a world in which Nintendo releases an HD Zelda for the PS3 or the XBox360. Or a world where you play Pokemon in full 3D, online, with voicechat and whatnot. You COULD have those games for the last 5 years if Nintendo wasn't hogging them - the world was ready for them. Sega bailed out of the console wars and instead chose to release games that were multiplatform, and from what we're seeing so-far, that was a good decision for them. I can't see why Nintendo wouldn't be able to make certain titles have exclusive features on their hardware, but still relatively available for other users.

If I were confronted with the possibility of playing a *good* Nintendo game on *good* hardware with *good* graphics and *good* gameplay, I'd pull out my wallet and throw it at whoever proposed this deal to me. I would literally become a better person to play HD Metroid.

If Nintendo's IP's are so "wonderful" and their games are so "top notch" like everybody states, then why are they only on Nintendo consoles? Are they afraid that they may lose the Aura of Awesome when they're objectively compared to other games on other consoles?

Playstation Magainze is claiming the Playstation 4 which hasn't even been announced, revealed, etc. is more powerful than it's future rival console.

Yeah, and my mom's going to be the next president just because I said so.

Is that really surprising?

It's been Sony's policy since a while now (since PS2 vs Dreamcast, even if gamecube/xbox kicked PS2's ass in term of hardware power).

They always release a console better in term of hardware/feature than the others, but if the game doesn't follow, you just end up with an expensive system with no games.
