For its part, Sony believes that the future in 3D is in the console. Koller said Sony intends to invest in 3D gaming for its PlayStation 3. A firmware update bringing 3D gaming to the PS3 is coming at some point in the future.

QUOTERohde was specifically asked during an interview whether Sony was developing a handheld with 3D capabilities, and the answer was pretty straightforward.

"No, no plans for that," says Rohde. "It’s just not something we’re announcing right now. It’s just as simple as that. It’s all I can tell you."

Well Sony said that they have no interest in 3D Handhelds and said 3D isn't good in a console but they decide to make the PS3 3D!
Sony are making a terrible decision because 3D televisions cost ALOT.
And if the 3D is anything like their uncomfortable headgear, well...
This also seems to be a market scheme to get more people to buy Sony's 3D Televisions...
And does this meen PSP will stand down against the king of consoles, Nintendo?

Plus the fact the 3DS has 3D...
If they don't put a special thing to it then it won't be very popular...
And if they put 3D/Touch/Motion Control/2+ Screens it will just seem like they are copying Nintendo...

the ps3 3d with in the works way before the 3ds idea was even mentioned
if you have a 3d tv, you can take advantage and view your ps3 games in 3d now, they are not forcing anyone to buy one

they said the 3d nintendo was using was flawed

They are most likely saying flawed because they're jealous.
They can't be right, cause then it will be counted as them giving advice.
I'm gonna get ready for Sony to ask to join Nintendo to work on the 3DS...

Not so much flawed as they have a problem that the tiny 3DS 3D screen is too personal. Sony or anyone else in that matter doesn't have the technology to make a 60 inch screen that gives everyone in the room 3D without any glasses.

The 3D in the 3DS only works in front of the player. Everyone else except Nintendo is using 3D TV's, screens, and monitors with Active Shutter glasses and that's what they're comfortable with. They already have that 3D figured out and near-perfected. Sony or pretty much everyone is uncomfortable competing with technology Nintendo is trying to pioneer. Not to mention it doesn't look good when you're impressed by your own competitors. They have to maintain their company image for stocks sake, and that includes poking holes into Nintendo's new hardware to try and make it as less appealing as they can.

Sony's disposition on the 3DS has pretty much been "Well we don't do it like that so we disapprove." But all that is going to change once 3DS is revised, perfected, and retailed... And its going to kick so much ass, you'll probably go blind.

And you can pretty much bet that Camera, phones, and other handheld makers will experiment with 3D screens 2-5 years from now after 3DS makes countless headlines and crazy unit sales.

The 3DS is in a better potion then PS3 because with the 3DS there will be no need for glasses.
I predict when 3D TVs are as affordable as HD TVs, there will be TVs designed like the 3DS.
So basically the 3DS is a look into the future.
Sony is just jealous that Nintendo has just started with 3D and Sony has been trying hard on it.
And this is no case of beginners luck

they said they had no plans for it
That doesn't mean they have no interest, sony are clearly still designing the psp2 imo, they may leave it till 2012 to release the psp2, although the psp will never be able to compete with both ds and 3ds but its not like its competing right now anyway

Way too much fanboy here. Sony had plans for 3D on the PS3 long before the 3DS. And you act like it's a "mandatory" feature for most games, while it's not. If you have a 3D TV, then it's cool. If you don't, you're not missing out. It's just an added feature you can use it you want and can.

And "uncomfortable headgear"? Lol. It's just a pair of 3D glasses like you'd wear at a movie theater. The good kind, not the shitty paper ones. It'd just be as "uncomfortable" as wearing normal glasses or sunglasses.

Sony knows the next PSP will never beat the 3DS. Nintendo has been in the handheld market from day one and has won every time. And not by a short margin, by a landslide. Sony's just looking to make a profit with their PSP like every other company.

Odds are next PSP won't have 3D, but it'll probably have better graphics than the 3DS, a touchscreen, and another analog stick.

EDIT: And remember, as 3D gets more popular (and ever since Avatar it's getting really popular), more 3D TVs will be made and the prices will go down.

@FireGrey This is funny. Continue being chronographically uninformed and I will continue to laugh.

(I'm to lazy to do a quote then have to edit the quoted post with no words in it...my comp is messed up, only on this site though)

i think every company making 3d tvs should start working on tvs that don't need the glasses.not to sure if all the detail on how nintendo made 3d without glasses is on the web but tv companies should look into it and see if they can manage to make it right now instead of releasing tvs that need 3d glasses.

In a rumor article at GameSpot, there is speculation that Sony might release the PSP 4000 in 2010. With the PSP Go failing to gain momentum, one would have thought Sony would announce some kind of new PSP at this year's E3.

I seriously believe that Sony was going to announce something at E3, but when they saw the 3DS hands-on, they quicky pulled their presentation. I doubt anything they had planned could've stood up to the strong showing of the 3DS.

do you know how much planning goes into a E3 press conference
they dont just pull things or change things within a few hours

and why would they not show a PSP2 if they saw the 3DS, it was already confirmed the 3DS would be shown at E3 weeks in advance
they just dont have any hardware or its not ready to be shown, lots of speculation it will be shown at TGS '10

What a load of BS, If I was one of those interviewers AND I could run a blog with no commercial attachment (read, ads from the major companies),
I would confront them with two things:

1) The Six-Axis "rumble is obsolete" BS and the release of the DualShock3

2) The Wii gimmick controllers, now emulated and improved with the PS Move.

Mark my words, in 2-3 years psp will have a 3d screen like the 3ds.

Now they just need to make a new home console to knock out the PS3
