Anyway, I received an AceKard 2.1 about a week ago from DX. It has a HW of 80. I have used the official firmware and the AKAIO firmware and have not noticed any improvement in either.
I am using it with a Wintec Filemate 8gb Microsd, and have also tried with a Verbatim 2gb Microsd, both behave the same, both were formatted with the Panasonic formatter.
When starting a backup ROM, the software will start up until the point where a save game is made, then it just sits there forever. Music keeps playing, but I have to reset the DS Lite in order to continue.
I have emailed AceKard's support at their gmail address and am waiting to hear back, and have also put in a support ticket with DX. I'm not expecting much from DX, since sending back this $11 cart will likely cost me $20 in return shipping, so it will be a complete waste of money and I could end up receiving a replacement with the same problem. I haven't heard back from DX at any rate.

They basically told me to figure it out myself and contact them again if I had more questions. I think instead of spending two months to try and get a replacemant ( that might have the same issue ) I'll just play the games I can and wait out the new firmware. Or I'll just get an Acekard 2i. On the DX forums someone said they were able to get their AceKard 2.1 working by using the ak2_407_a15_20080626_release firmware instead of the newest. I tried this, and save games seem to create properly now, but the absolute newest titles will of course not work right since they lack the fixes in newer versions. This kind of tells me that the cart (mine at least) is probably working if it's able to load most backups with the old firmware. Something else I noticed, games load a hair slower with the old firmware than the new one, maybe it's a DMA issue?
So, maybe there is a dim hope that a fixed firmware can resolve this, either that or we will all just get orphaned by AceKard and en masse decide to never buy anything from them again.

Yeah they must have had a hardware change or they are clones. I'm waiting for my 2is to arrive from DX, they seem to be having problems updating the bootloader from the recent batch. Went to dx and didn't see any flash carts except an EZVi.

In the AceKard release notes, the version after 4.07 (4.08) says, "A brand new engine of saving and reading card for Acekard2. Faster and more stable. Castlevania should be never lag on any TF cards.
Press "a" to use new engine and long press "a" for old engine.
If there's any black or white screen please disable all special functions first.
Merged all main features from bliss's firmware. Thanks to bliss. And thanks to Smiths, Normmatt and gelu too."
So, it's probably safe to say that whatever is in this "brand new engine" either isn't supported in the DX AceKards either from being clones which don't properly implement the hardware, or the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing at AceKard. As end users we will probably never know. AceKard could simply say they were all clones even if they weren't to save face for shipping a broken revision, and DX will probably just stop carrying it, or put one of their famous perpetual out of stock stop signs on it rather than dealing with an extreme sh1t storm.

Acekard firmware 4.11 added a fix for FFXII by forcing the old save engine on start so we could try grabbing that firmware and seeing if FFXII saves or not.

I bought 4 of them from focalprice and i have the same issues, tried 3 different micro sd (2 sdhc (class 4) and one 2go) not working as everyone said.
I just tried the firmware 4.11 that hasney gave us (on eu version) when launching the game, then the loader boot something else (like rebooting, with some code line apparearing on the top screen) and the start normally.
It saved, then i reboot to see if the save is working and it does.
(Mario kart does the same boot as ff and now it's working). As expected, zelda spirit tracks is booting, but the train commands are not here.

I agree Tears is great. I even played thru it completely twice. I've been hooked on playing thru Fallout 4 again though, after they released the next gen version for Series S/X. Is pretty cool update.
