Cheers for that doyama.

When the wife has opened it i'll rip it myself for my own backup (as usual) and i may try a few brickblockers and scrubbers and the like - if retail doesn't work without any update.

I keep up to date with both Gecko and Neogamma and my bootmii is set to block all disc updates, but I kinda figured if I couldn't get it working from the retail, i could fudge it in someway with them.

At least now i've got an "ios58" to aim at if it doesn't work.

Let me know how it goes. You can use Wiiscrubber to remove the update partition and load the game and see if that works. I've not had much luck getting the game to load with my Wiikey/usbloader/gecko using my 3.4 Wii using a usb camera I dug up in the basement. I know that when I loaded the game via Gecko it asked to install IOS58 so you will probably have the same experience. I'd be curious to know if you can get a scrubbed game to load with the retail camera via Gecko. It would at least let me know if the reason it doesn't work is because of the USB camera, or because of my Wii setup.

I'd like to try the game, but to be honest I don't want to pay the money just for the stupid webcam. On top of the fact that Jenny McCarthy makes my blood boil in general I'm not sure I could stand listening to her on a daily basis.

I doubt any generic webcam would work with it, as every USB device has its own unique ID. The best example on Wii is the Dance Mat\Pad - while it is on the GameCube port - that the generic older 3rd party pads not working with DDR Hottest Party 2 or higher, not even the Ultimate Party Challenge recognize it (due to the fact that that is also Konami) Unless you have the original package I doubt you will find a compatible webcam.

An option could be to put the included cam to a PC and get the IDs there and try to find and patch the IOS to recognize it. The chances are slim, but you never know.

For reference see the Eyetoy driver on PC it was the opposite issue.

Right then, here's the news...

It won't work! I'm well pissed off.

Retail Disc and camera (pal) won't boot from either the system menu, GeckOS or the latest NeoGamma. The system menu doesn't show the disc as having an update on it, not ripped it to had a look yet.

All i get with any of the 3 loading methods is a black screen right after it begins and BEFORE the "how to hold a wiimote" screen.

It did occur to me that as i used to use pre-loader (to block disc updates) that may still be on in some way, but i've been using bootmii for a while without problems. I did do a nand backup from bootmii so i can do some fidling here to get it working.

Anyone got any suggestions or info on this IOS58 thingy?

I don't think the PAL version will work on an NTSC system. You're probably trying to force it to NTSC via Gecko or NeoGamma. Doing this with the PAL disc (using Wiikey on my NTSC USA 3.4 system) causes a black screen. If I don't force NTSC it will show the hold the wiimote screen (in crazy black and white unsynced PAL) then shows the "usb camera not connected screeen". I suggest you try loading the retail disc+game without forcing NTSC mode to see if it loads ok.

If you need IOS58 you can extract it out from the disc using Wiiscrubber.

My apologies. I wasn't sure and the behavior seemed pretty identical to what I was seeing when messing with different PAL/NTSC versions. I'm surprised Gecko didn't try to install IOS58 when you tried to launch it. I'm not sure which version of IOS58 is on the disc but you should be able to extract it and load it via any wad manager. It's also odd that you're not even getting to the point where the game tries to detect the USB camera.

The only other thing I can suggest, is to try to disable anything that might be trying to override any system defaults. In my own tests, I found trying to do things like force NTSC or do 002 fixes within the loaders causes the black screen before the wii remote warnings. However once I disabled those fixes, I was at least getting to the point where it didn't detect the USB camera. Since yours is retail, you really just need to get to this point. I don't use pre-loader or bootmii so I can't recommend anything specific. But don't muck around too much. It would be a shame if you bricked your wii for some silly fitness game

The thread I specified previously had users trying to get the retail game to load via the disc channel with success. I'd try to post or PM people there and they might have more details on how to help.

Good luck!

Ripped the disc, opened it in wiiscrubber, extracted "ios58-64v5918" and then installed it with a wad manager, now the game runs (original or backup) direct from the disc channel as any other wii game should.

Basically a total success, big thanks to doyma. Hopefully this'll help any other peeps who can't get it to run over the holidays.

Hmm this is a fascinating development. The xbox webcam is pretty simple. Maybe the webcams I've been testing with include mics so they don't work? I wonder if I can even dig up a crappy webcam with no speaker?

I wonder if any other xbox owners could confirm this tidbit of information?
