I got the same "unable to read ticket aborting mission" error when trying to install preloader. What worked for me was installing preloader 0.29 first. Then I went back and tried 0.30r3 and it installed without the error. I'm playing my burned backups now and my 1TB WD My book will be delivered later today!

Thanks will give it a try when i am back home

Yes this worked for me on one of them but the one I did last night it froze on the intro screen and didn't give the option to press plus to install?

On preloader 0.29 you have to press 1 at the intro screen to install but it doesn't say it on the screen.

ok

so im on 3.2U and have some of the starfall hacks installed

no i dont have boot mii

wondering if i can do the 4.2 update without bricking my wii, then following the the guide from there

or is it better to do something else

wii is 2 weeks from release old

Read the first page in full next time.

For those who are already softmodded and would like to try this guide to update your cIOS and whatnot, i actually recommend to update via Nintendo to get to a virgin 4.2. I mean, when it first came out, it was not recommended at all to update, only if you wanted a headache. But know with the new updated applications it's safe to say you can easily mod 4.2 wii's now. The only thing i recommend is for cIOScorp users wanting to update to 4.2 should install a clean IOS30 via DOP-IOS to avoid any problems with the hackmii installer.

While what you're saying is correct, I have to disagree. Updating via nintendo is less safe than updating the wii using zektor's offline (or online) method, so I would recommend against updating the wii via nintendo (they are in the habbit of bricking wii's through their boot2 updates, they could learn a thing or 2 from team twiizers). Besides, who knows when the next update will be coming out (not any time soon hopefully), but you don't want to accept a 4.3 update by accident thinking it was a 4.2 update.

Thanks for the great tut. Can't believe I messed up somehow...

I currently have the following error on the screen: "Exception (DSI) Occurred!" with different codes (stack and code dumps).

Here's what I did (new virgin console):[*]Updated via Nintendo to get 4.2.[*]Extracted newmod.rar to 2GB SD card (listed as compatible card). Verified structure.[*]Followed instructions and installed Homebrew Channel, DVDX, and Bootmii as IOS (boot2 was not available).[*]Created NAND backup and let it verify it.[*]Shutdown Wii, moved bootmii folder to computer, copied installer.log, keys.bin and nand.bin to computer.[*]Put SD card back in Wii, powered on, followed steps 1a to run trucha bug restorer. Pressed A a number of times until it was done. The first two times it said "load IOS from SD", something different the next few times - there were no options, something like "press A to continue...".[*]Started to follow steps 1b to run the trucha bug restorer again. For the "Choose IOS15 and press A. (Important)" step, I used the left button to cycle through the different IOSs until it showed "IOS15" and then pressed A. This is where I got the error message. I didn't get to the "Wait till it says Press 1 then press it." step.I have done some google searches and have found that this error tends to come up most often with USB loaders. I was only able to find one related issue, but there was no resolution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First of all, is it safe to power off my Wii? What steps should I take next? Hope I didn't already brick the thing.

Edit: Well, at least it doesn't appear to be bricked. I have restarted and can get back in to the trucha bug restorer. I tried step 1b again and got the same error.
just do a hard restart.
dsl exception are random and harmless.

Thanks for the info. That's what I ended up doing, but I got the error again the next time I tried to do step 1b again. It appears that sendblink23 had the same problem and he was able to get it to work with a different SD card. Unfortunately, I don't have another to try.

QUOTE(r6306 @ Oct 16 2009, 05:34 AM)
To the other people getting the:
Exception (DSI) occurred! ..blah blah blahhhhhh numbers
Stack Dump... bla blah blahh numbers
Code DUmp... blah blahh blahhh numbers

This seems to be a random thing. What I did was go back to 1a but chose restore IOS15. Once that was done go back to 1a again and start again - it seemed to work fine after this?
Thanks, I'll give that a shot. I just want to make sure I do this correctly. I looked over the instructions and found step 1c has instructions to restore IOS15. Are these the steps you used to restore it?

only like a very very small tiny portion of wii's, if any, have got bricked by the nintendo update.
it is highly unlikely you will brick by updating via nintendo, unless your not meant to have a wii.
and yes your right about the 4.3 update it could come at any time, but who cares? we'll find a way around it. thats no reason not to update via nintendo. i mean yea, it removes the majority of things, but you can get it back no problem.

Q for u, can a wii that's been updated by nintendo to 4.2, and softmodded, downgrade to 4.1 system menu (by installing old IOS60 and sys menu wad), then accept a ninty update to purposely remove the soft mods?
yea, i have personally done this before
just install the IOS60 before the SM wad.

My Wii system is NTSC, well I was heading to get games, right I can't get any PAL version rite? The issue why I ask is that I only keep seeing pal around... so I'm asking if I can use them or not?
Nothing more.

I'm stuck at step 5b of the 3.X - 4.1 Method guide.

The 222/223 installer v4 says:

IOS Version: 00f9000e
Downloading IOS38 metadata: ...from SD: ..tmd..from SD: ..ticket..Title ID:
0000000100000026
Number of parts: 15. Total size: 1887k
Downloading contents:
Downloading part 1/15 (OK): from internet: initializing network.

Well... i don't have network... there was nothing said that i would need it...
are there some files missing in the modpal.rar?

can i get the files needed somewhere?

Sorry if this was answered before. I read the first 20 pages or so...
way too much... I'm in panic...

try it a second time, the required files should be saved under the 00000001 folder that came with your download package. If the installer can't find it on the SD card, it will try downloading from the net. You can get these files using your PC and NUS downloader, but u should have them already.

yeah... i already tried the procedure about 10 times... always with same result.
i also thought of NUSD. But i don't know what version of IOS38 to download
"f9000e" would mean v16318478... I never heared of it... must be a mistake i think.

EDIT:
I see... In the modpal.rar
the folder 0000000100000026 folder contains a folder named v3610.
so... now i know what version to get. but xxero should update his rar or the guide.
contents of that folder is 192kB --> 4 files.

I was using this guide using the 4.2 method. When I got to step 1b or 1c my homebrew channel was upside down. I completed all the steps anyways and everything worked and I can play backups, thanks for the awsome guide
smile.gif
Now back to the upside down homebrew channel, I did some searching and one method to fix was re-install ios36. I dont want to screw up anything I did so I thought I would ask here how to fix this problem since I am using this guide. Thanks.

1. Download NUS Downloader from wiibrew on your PC. and download this to make your life easier (http://www.easy-share.com/1907826316/NusFoldersRenamer%20v1.0.0.zip)
2. Extract the contents of both downloads to the same folder

3. Use NUS Downloader to get IOS37 v3612:
1. Select title ID 0000000100000025 v3612
2. Ensure the Pack->WAD option is NOT checked
3. Click Start NUS Download!

4. Use NUS Downloader to get IOS38 v3610:
1. Select title ID 0000000100000026 v3610
2. Ensure the Pack->WAD option is NOT checked
3. Click Start NUS Download!

5. Use NUS Downloader to get IOS60 v6174:
1. Select title ID 000000010000003C v6174
2. Ensure the Pack->WAD option is NOT checked
3. Click Start NUS Download!

6. Double click NusFoldersRenamer.exe, it will create a 00000001 folder (which contains the files of everything u just downloaded). Copy this to your SD card (merge folders if asked)

7. Continue with the steps of "Installation procedure"

Uninstall HBC and re install it via hackmii again... got the same problem about half an hour ago.
