I want to play "Pole's Big Adventure" on my NTSC-U Wii (latest update) without borking online functionality and official updates. Is there any way to do this?

Here's what I did so far:
1. Installed the Homebrew Channel.
2. Installed BootMii and made a NAND backup, just in case.
3. Patched the WAD with FreeTheWads.
4. Tried to run WAD Manager. Got error -2011.

Again, I DON'T WANT TO COMPROMISE ANY OF THE OFFICIAL FUNCTIONALITY OF MY WII, and I don't want to have to manually update files with every system update. Is this possible?

All you have to do is get cIOS installed. Use the Trucha Bug Restorer or something for that. Once you've done that any update is fine to do unless some future update tries to overwrite IOS249

Quite frankly, the whole cIOS business really confuses me, and I'd like to get by without it, if possible. How do I know it won't mess something up in the future? I really don't want to have to check GBATemp for warnings with every system update. Is it even uninstallable, and if so, where would I find the original IOS that it replaced?

If I had a clear explanation of the IOS/cIOS system (how it works, what it affects, what Nintendo can do about it, etc.), I might be okay with it, but I haven't been able to find one so far.

If you are not ready to do what it takes then die, simple. Anyway, you have a backup and installing a cIOS doesn't bork any of your official shit, shit head. Go read some wiki and some guide, we aren't going to educate on Wii piracy.

you don't have to be so skeptical about the cIOS. is just a file added to your system, it doesn't change anything in your Wii, just adds functionality.
If you're too afraid just don't do that and pay for the frikking game.

*removed*

In any case, to the OP, look up the error code that you got when WadManager failed to install the wad. That should help. Also, if you aren't using the newest versions of the various software (a quick google search or a search of GBATemp [look up at the top, in case you managed to miss the search button] will help with this) then try with the newest versions. There are also various tutorials around the site.

W*removed* people here are willing to help you, but the questions that you ask are extremely generalized and are probably answered in stickies all over the site.

If the tuts don't help you, then you can come back with more specific questions and people will be far more able (not to mention willing) to help you out.

It's so refreshing to meet a person who likes dicks and isn't afraid to admit it.
I don't know how you can imagine that, I guess you are just referring to your own fear. Don't worry, we will not judge you.

I WOULD pay for the frikking game, but I can't, because it's only sold in Japan.

Then Nintendo doesn't want YOU to play that game, because you live in a region they don't want to release it, and if you want so much to stay official you'll comply to that and don't play it.

If not, just install the bloody cIOS. It installs in a new slot (it won't overwrite anything) and installing / removing it it's a snap (just uninstall with AnyTitle Deleter - no way you'll need to uninstall it though)

Its not going to fuck up your wii. You're being paranoid. Also if you don't want to do it then don't play the damn game.

TRushInfo, I think you have it the wrong way around. Most of the people that are knowledgable and helpful on these boards aren't 12. In fact, they have real lives and spend some of their free time helping people out for no reward. Thus people can get annoyed and flame when questions that are answered in the stickies are asked over and over or when the OP makes outlandish requests etc.

That said, I don't really see why this guy got flamed so harshly. So I will do my best to see if I can help him out.

First of all, if you are concerned about messing something up or "compromising" your Wii for future features (highly unlikely but understandable) a Bootmii backup would be the way to go as long as you can install to Boot2. That said BootMii WILL modify the boot2 area of your Wii but is fully removable afaik.

Now, as for the WAD not installing I would suspect that it requires IOS 53 and 55. These are official Nintendo IOSes and would be installed along with the WAD if you were able to purchase it officially. Therefore, installing these system files would not preclude you from doing anything in the future with you Wii. In order to obtain the IOS files use NUS Downloader (1.2 beta is available on the forums which is much more user friendly) to download them. Be sure to check the "Create WAD" (or similarly described checkbox). Then use WAD Manager to install these IOS files.

As far as I'm aware, I'm not sure if you even need the CIOS to play WiiWare games. Give it a try without it. Otherwise, what you want to do isn't really currently possible short of importing a Japanese Wii.

No, cIOS is not needed to run WiiWare games, but an IOS with the trucha bug is needed to run Wad Manager such as cIOS249.
