My Wiimote also fails to work, but the buttons on the front do work... no idea why they would not for you.

I have finally succeeded in installing 4.1e. The offline tutorial is spot on as far as I can see, so thanks a tonne for that.

Now, how does one run WiiWare off the SD card? I have tried placing WADs directly there, but that does not seem to work, as nothing is detected. I still seem able to install them manually via WAD manager, but my whole reason for doing this was to try run a certain game, which is still not running via that method...

Is there some specific way to run things from the SD Channel?
Thanks
The latest Bootmii supposedly doesnt support the front buttons.

It's not the latest bootmii that doesn't support the front buttons. A boot2 install should always support them. Only the IOS version REQUIRES a GC controller.

trying to install bootmii, but my remote disconnects on the wanring screen, where it says press 1 to continue. please help, thanks.
It's supposed to be some problem with the way your Wiimote is synced or something. Try resyncing it properly and then trying again or you should be able to use a GC controller to get through that.

I have a wii with 3.4e fw and HBC installed. No internet connection.
I want to upgrade to 4.0 or 4.1 without loosing the HBC channel and use backup launcher.

Can i use this guide as it is? Is there any problem?

Thanks a lot!

I have been looking for a quick and simple offline install for awhile....even attempting to create my own. I have my system up and running perfectly. v4.1U, all updated IOS's (and trucha) and everything runs perfectly. I have bootmii in boot2 and can do nand backup and restore, so I can test things like this and revert should there be a problem. So, I restored to the original NAND of the system (3.1U) and tried the offline guide from scratch.

Well, heres the issue. Everything installs fine, and when I get to the end I load up one game to test "WarioWare Smooth Moves" via my usb HD and USBLoaderCFG. The game loads fine and plays fine, but when I exit the game to go to the home menu, black screen. It does NOT do this on my good working 4.1U NAND. Also, other games freeze before load...such as Castlevania Judgement.

Why is this? What does my working NAND have that this tutorial is lacking that allows the games to work just fine from there but not work when using this offline tutorial on a vanilla/untouched Wii? I'd love to know..

I have a strangle problem after using this guide. Not all the time, but sometimes when i turn the Wii on, i just get a black screen (no health warning screen or anything), to get past this i have to take my SD card out and then turn on the Wii. Whats the problem here?
Sounds like a bootmii problem. Try formatting the SD card.

So it is Bootmii, thats causing this problem then, as i never had the Wii do this before. How would Formatting the SD card help, are some SD cards not compatable with BootMii then?

Did you use the Offline guide to install 4.1U? I can use the Home menu fine. Sounds like a HBC issue assuming you are loading USBLoader from there.

from the Bootmii FAQ
Code:
I installed BootMii/boot2, but it doesn't come up when I boot my Wii.

Try booting with no SD card inserted. If you see a brief set of flashes from the blue slot LED right after you hit the power button, try a different SD card. Make sure you have a directory named "bootmii" with the "armboot.bin" and "ppcboot.elf" files inside.

If you do not see those flashes, BootMii/boot2 is not installed.
Format the SD card or try another

did you download the latest package? Run firmware upgrader 4.1 again

If we skip the step with the nand backup would we have a problem?
no its just a security step

I used the offline guide. I tried it both ways. Loaded the USBLoaderCFG from the SD card (through HBC) and I also installed a wad channel of neogamma r6 and tried loading the games from there instead (bypassing the HBC completely). Same issue both ways.

What could cause this? I have another Wii in storage and I'll break it out today and see if it exhibits the same issue with the offline installation. Can you try these games (if you have them) and see if it does it for you? The only difference between my nand that does work with these games and the installation here is that with the working nand I used Waninkoko's IOS downgrader back it the heyday, updated to 4.0U, and then last week I upgraded to 4.1U.

EDIT:

Tested on my other Wii model, which was originally a 3.4U system. It worked perfectly there, and everything loads just fine.

Now the real question is, what is the deal with the 3.1U system? Why would it not work correctly there? I tried it twice to be sure. Something with this firmware causes problems with games and the upgrade...

Hi assassda!

I followed your guide on a friends wii recently who was on official 4.0E. I used your guide to do this and it worked flawlessly (thanks for that!)

I have recently acquired an older virgin wii with a damaged dvd drive (i.e game doesn't even show up as animation in disk channel!) and am trying to follow your new updated 4.1 guide to get it up and running using usb loader GX or neogamma6.

I am currently tring to follow you guide on a 3.1E Virgin wii. I have installed homebrew, bootmii installed to boot2 and have a nand backup.

I have followed the updated guide and would like to know which steps of the guide should i skip as Waninkoko's new message when using trucha bug restorer is pretty scary as he says not to do this if on version 3.3 or lower.

A few questions:

Q1.
DOES THIS MEAN that i need to skip steps 8 and 9???

AND THEN Go straight to:

step 10) Run cIOS36_rev10-Installer and choose WAD Installation.
----------------------------------------------------------

Q2.
Which steps should i cont

Supposedly downgrading/upgrading will brick the Wii... If you have Bootmii boot2 and a nand backup then you can try it

can you install cios? if so do that and move on. If not Format your SD card and try again

Warioware and Castlevania work fine for me. Thats a strange problem apparently related to the System Menu or maybe Bootmii. does the same thing happen if you use the online guide? is your serial LU64+?

Perfect candidate! Yes, you do not have to bother with TBR as you are on a system in which you have trucha. You can go right ahead and install cIOS and the various IOS wads (that are created/downloaded when you run the batch file) on that system. Can you first do a bootmii boot2 nand backup and then perform the offline install...and let me know if you have any game loading issues? If not, don't worry about it...

No, my system is not an LU64+. It is a launch model and has bootmii boot2 installed. I did not test the online procedure, but it looks like it just might work as it is pretty much the same procedure I used to get the 3.1U system working correctly and upgraded long ago. But, I was looking for an offline method.

Let's put it this way:

Say you have a 3.1U system...it is already trucha bug ridden so you can go right ahead and install cIOSrev10 and the various IOS included. The games will have issues regardless. Now, you update to 4.1 using the system wad. You are now on 4.1 and STILL the games have issues. I am venturing to guess that something the original Waninkoko IOS downgrader does fixes this *somewhere*....as my original method included that and the system works fine.

Thanks for that zektor, but you are scaring me dude!

As mentioned earlier i already have hbc, bootmii to boot2 and a nand backup!

1. I thought that you can only use the online guide if you have previously intalled cIOS's?
2. The games will have issues regardless? Can you explain further?

3. The last wii i softmodded was a 3.1e which i then did the official update to 4.0e via the wii and then followed this guide (was 4.0 at the time) and everything worked perfectly?? Are you saying you have had probs with games using this guide as you mentioned that you did this ages ago which would have used a different (older) guide/setup/files?

4. Is it just easier to update via official Nintendo to 4.0 or 4.1 and then follow the offline guide? then i can just follow the offline guide from start to finish?

-------------------------------------------------------

I think i may need a second opinion on this, Assassda is this true?

As long as you have a Nand backup that you verified to be able to restore your console, you should not have to worry. I have done backup/restore dozens of times.

Try the offline guide on your console and let me know if you have any game loading issues. You are on 3.1E....the Euro counterpart to my 3.1U. If you can use the offline guide and games load fine afterward, then it is a problem with the specific console I am using. If you do the offline install and you too have game loading problems, I will know it is otherwise.

If that is the case, you can simply nand restore and do the online install instead. You can also try to do the official nintendo 4.1 update before performing the offline install, as I tried this too....but with the same game problems after all was finished.

Again, just make sure you have a Nand backup that works before attempting any of this. Any testing is greatly appreciated! At least with boot2 bootmii and a nand backup we can conduct these tests for others not so privileged
