No, they used a savegame exploit (presumably) to run unsigned code, much like most exploits for most consoles, such as Twilight Hack for Wii, and many exploits for PSP. It is in no way a flash cart. The only reason the game is needed is because it is a DSi Mode game, so homebrew can access all DSi features.

Perfect timing, Team Twiizers...exactly then when I decided to put my DSi on EBay (this was yesterday)...damm

. Nah, I can live without the DSi, I think...otherwise, like always, awesome work, and even if I haven't a DSi now, I'm still eager to see whats coming...we have more possibilities now with the DSi (better CPU, Cam, etc...). Good luck on that

Oh, and like someone else said, pretty shure that Pandora's Box is now opened...Normatt, fancy to make an SD-Loader

Thats gunna be what everyone wants really, a soft mod so they can launch roms from the sd slot.
not really. many will want homebrew, not piracy. some of us like to abide by the law, and also support developers. Maybe someday you too will learn integrity.

Mate, if you think the majority of the people who hear about this want homebrew rather than piracy, then you're mistaken. Plus i dont have a dsi so i dont really care. Also there was no need to be a dick towards me.

i dont think the MAJORITY want homebrew over piracy, but there are quite a few who strongly oppose piracy. i dont have a dsi either. i was just informing people because i know this will be good news for many who want homebrew on their dsi without getting a flashcart.

cant wait for a real dsi mode flash cart, then i can justify updating to the dsi (hopefully more colors will be out in the US by then).

Well this news was a bit unexpected. Would be pretty neat if this developed further and the DSi was eventually made region free.

uhm? just a question. by this hack DSi mode will be enabled right? so does it mean that a homebrew that has an ability to use the camera will be done? like for an example a Video Recorder?

theoretically it MAY be possible, but not yet. And I say may, I dont think the DSi camera can handle taking video. but it may be possible to do it in a roundabout way. and yes it is DSi mode.

This is tight! But does that mean everyone has to buy that bad game?
Well, I bet that's what everyone thought about the Wii when the Twilight Hack was released. If people manage to get inside the DSi and find out everything, I'm sure that, one day, no games will be needed at all, or at least not that one. I'm sure custom firmware will come out for it though.

now there getting somewhere! great news. but whats that on the end of the game cart?

It appears to be some sort of hardware. I think the exploit may sadly rely on this. Or it could be some sort of debugging device. But hopefully they will soon be able to release an exploit which only requires at most a game.

(@bLAStY) (09.07. 11:49:26) the uC isnt needed for the hack that is shown in the video

so yes, it's propably only for debug purpose

Yeah, as others have stated, I believe they're injecting some fun stuff in the save game's serial EEPROM. The device the DS is hooked up to is called an Arduino. I have a few, they're fun to use for quickly developing microcontroller based embedded-type stuff. (like home lighting control, plant monitoring, robots, etc.) It's much easier to use an Arduino to emulate an EEPROM when doing this kind of thing, since you can very quickly reprogram it without removing chips and stuff. (It's all in software)

EDIT:
By the way, like the old DS exploits, the code is most likely running out of the EEPROM...

that would be fun and maybe by this hack? we can now put photo or images from our PC to our DSi?

Why did Nintendo put a team twiizers logo in one of there games all they did was hack the wii

.

Well know Nintendo will have a reason to say that dsi carts are only for piracy if the SD card slot can be used for homebrew.
