this sorta shit is EXACTLY why i say update through nintendo... but NOOOO no one wants to because it's dangerous lol

not as long as you have cIOS installed... then use IOS Downgrader, then install preloader. so just 4 simple steps.

cIOS_rev9
update officially
IOS Downgrader
Install preloader

done.

Dunno if this is the problem here, but Waninkoko's 4.0 updater does NOT install IOS 60/61 (one or other, maybe both) and this leads to bricks if not manually installed previously. you should really check stuff out and know exactly what you're doing before you do it.

Hm doesn't install IOS60?
That would cause a brick

I used his firmware downgrader to update:
http://teknoconsolas.es/blog/waninkoko/fir...downgrader-v111

It installs IOS60, but will skip it if you already have it installed. (Or at least that's what Waninkoko told me)
Not sure if his 4.0 updater works the same way.

im confused, so the LU64+ FIX says do not downgrade or install any other CIOS... but it says we can run Wan. 4.0 updater.

will it brick people with a LU64 that need to use those custom files?

It does.
I did use it, and I can confirm that it installed IOS60 and IOS61

I know that it skips IOS60 if you installed it before. It worked just fine for me, but I made a NAND backup beforehand just in case.

Also, I thought all of these I BRIK MAH WII threads would stop once BootMii came out. But alas, there are more now than in recent memory.

I dont think people understand that before they do anything, they should install bootmii and make a nand backup

Mine got bricked with the Waninkooko updater as well, read the directions and did exactly what I supposed to, it got to the part where it was updating the shopping channel and them threw up a Ret error, can't remember which one, maybe -2 or -21 or -22, who knows, said to reboot, and nothing ever came back up on the screen. Unfortunately I didn't have Preloader or anything installed.

I've since replaced it and got an LU64+ model running 3.4. Luckily there was an LU64 out the same day I got the new one so I was able to softmod it and I'm up and running again.

Not sure what happened, haven't heard a good reason for it happening, it was odd tho.

Hi every one,

Just to say that i used Waninkoko upgrade 4 just the way it is writen in GBATemp Ultimate 4 upgrade and i succeed in 5 Wii including 3 USA Wii 3.3U and 3.4U to 4.0E (via 3.2E) and 2 Europe 3.3E and 3.4E.

None got bricked if you follow the step by step manual offerd here in GBATemp.

I started HBC either from Twilight Hack or BannerBomb and it make no differences at all in the process to 4.0. If you respect all steps you cannot be bricked.

Just remember that starting in 3.4 needs wads IOS16-64-v257.wad and cios_fix.wad installed with wadmanagerios16 to be able to enter the Waninkoko process to 4.0

Read carrefully plenty of time (print the manual) and there is no trouble !

Well I updated my Wii to 4.0U and it worked but when I installed preloader I got a system menu files corrupted screen then reinstalled preloader and I works again. Then I restarted my wii and I got a black screen. Downgraded to 3.2U then upgraded back to 4.0U did the same steps and now i get a health screen that shows up but no press A button to continue. Then I found out that I need to have everything unpluged (sd, and usb harddrive) for it to load to the health screen with the press A button to continue prompt. This I found out after 4-5 times downgrading and updating my wii. I found out about Bootmii after the 3 downgrading and updating. So I have a NAND.bin of my 3.2U after downgrading 3 times and a 4.0U from my last updating.

I think doing this killed my wii's fan so now my wii overheats and crashes on me a lot. my wii Even crashed on me while flashing my NAND through Bootmii. Guess Bootmii saved my wii.

Mine wouldn't let me install to boot2. Only ios.
So nand backup is useless if bootmii installed to ios (well thats what it says in readme)
