No more politics talk... Keep it on topic guys.

Friendly warning...
In compliance with Lostbhoy’s request, it would be a good idea to just make a thread where people can talk about the political situation that is ModRetro and everything around them. Since there’s a rather large elephant in the room, it’s time we give it the space it deserves.
So here, have thread. I will not make my opinion(s) known in the OP as this is not my space to use, but simply provide a thread for this topic.
For those who don’t know the controversies, here’s some Google AI overviews.

If there is any topic I missed, I am just going with what was discussed in the review that sparked this thread.

Anduril also collaborates with Microsoft and Amazon and Meta, projects worth tens of billions.
Do the people who claim to boycott also boycott Microsoft and Amazon and Meta?
I think this situation is very common in the U.S., but actually it's not just the U.S., it's the same all over the world:(.

I recall reports that Pokémon GO players' uploaded environmental scan data was used by a company spun off from its developer to train AI, that company later partnered with a defense contractor, possibly for military drone navigation.
I've hardly seen anyone boycott Pokémon in China. :mellow:Some people even make excuses for it, saying it was just an American company that did it and that it has nothing to do with Pokémon.

Anyone who doesn't already absolutely should, they're all actively making the world (and tech) worse. Why is it that every dumbfuck billionaire who names their company after something in LoTR seems to think Sauron and Saruman were the heroes of the story?

The names of those tech companies all seem to come from Middle-earth, there must be some conspiracy:tpi::evil:

As much as this is true, this also hints towards the site's integrity: if something is worthy of game news or a review, but there are political or other such divisive issues surrounding it, are they supposed to have a say on whether or not to cover it? I think not, unless there was a genuine risk to doing so (e.g. connecting a no name brand smart home item and risking network intrusion while reviewing -- although there are of course ways to mitigate such risks).

Gaming is dominated by less than a dozen companies which usually partner with other big tech companies, and commit their own crimes as well as hurt the consumer. If the site operators enforced their own standards over a hobby that is not supposed to be political or very opinionated at all, it could hurt the hobby as a whole.

At least that's how I feel about it. In my opinion, these things should be reviewed in a vacuum, as they already are (although briefly addressing issues like this is important too), not that by saying that I express support -- which should go without saying, but you never know nowadays.

Yes. I don't use Microsoft products in a personal capacity and have stopped using Amazon. Meta is the only bitch because of how ubiquitous whatsapp is. I don't use Instragram, Facebook or buy any of their hardware.

This shit isn't the easiest thing to do but seriously fuck these companies.

In my experience, family members and boomers tend to only use WhatsApp, whereas at least one of Signal, Telegram, etc. can be expected from most others. I left it years ago with no regrets. Sure, at first it was a little inconvenient, but it felt liberating. In the end, I lost absolutely nothing.

Speaking of family members, convincing closest family members to use something else is probably all that's necessary not to become isolated from the family.

It's very much possible my experience is wildly different from most others, but what I'm trying to say is that saying "no" to Feta is always a good option.

Unfortunately here in blightly, it is universally used. Honestly don't know anyone who uses an alternative. I have family abroad and whatsapp is the default to use.
