A nice break from the negativity - let's look at some games coming out this week

To break up the negativity on the front page a touch, I figured I'd have a poke around Steam's upcoming releases to highlight a few that looked fun to me. The games in this post are all coming out within the next week or so, with there being no particular reason or rhyme as to why they're being featured outside of me thinking they look like a good time. If you happen to have anything on your radar, feel free to share it below. Without further ado though!

A castle-building roguelike on wheels. It's everything I want in a modern game and more. This game popped up earlier this year with a really cool demo, and I've had to hold myself back from playing more so as to keep things fresh for the final release. You ride around, devour cattle and villages, and make your fortress the one to rule them all. It looks rad.

Next up is The Loopler. It's an... Indie... roguelite... deckbuilder... but hear me out. It's slot car racing. I'll admit my personal taste does lean towards roguelikes more than any other genre with how easy they are to pick up for short stints amidst a chaotic schedule, but this one looks like it'll be a hit. Plenty of power ups, multiple tracks to pick from. It should be good.

Oh now here's a topical one. Instead of shouting at the mods here for silencing your very valid criticism of something or another, you can go be your own mod! I honestly know very little about Permaban, but from the screenshots the aesthetics seem absolutely on point, and I couldn't just not show off a game about forum moderation now could I? It's also not a roguelike, so I imagine that'll earn some points for some.

I'll round this out with a genre that's been very much on the rise of late: friendslop. If you happen to have one to three friends handy, you can task them with weird physics-based construction jobs. It's a game I feel has potential, and one I'll likely be throwing at my friendslop group before too long. There is also a single player mode if you think it looks fun but lack the friend aspect. Never let your lack of friends stand between you and a good time.

That's your lot for today anyway. I'm eager to hear what people are looking forward to at the moment, and what they're currently playing. Let me know below!

Ooh I like this. Will these be weekly?
I can guarantee one next week just because there’s a game I’m looking forward to there and want more people to see it. Beyond that we’ll see lol

Wanderburg should be pretty good, seems like a different take on Thronefall. A couple other great recently released indies I feel are worth a shout-out are Slayblade (Beyblade roguelite) and DenshAttack (hyper-stylized Tony Hawk-like with a train in place of a skateboard).

In the AAA space Capcom is having one of their best years ever, Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold a million copies in just 24 hours following Pragmata and RE: Requiem also selling several million. In a couple months GTA6 will suck all the air out of the room, but it's been a pretty great year of releases even setting that aside.

I don't perfectly remember Wanderburg from the promo I saw a while back, but I do remember being interested. I'll have to check it out a second time.

thank you for this lol

There needs to be more positive news that come to this website and whatnot. I gonestly miss seeing the reviews that get posted on the front page. Both tools and games.

I'm really enjoy playing Final Fantasy Resonance Demo on steam. It reminds me of the old JRPGs from the 90s on SNES. The game won't be out til Oct 22nd however. Gonna be a long wait.

Gosh I bought Slayblade after being super excited for it and just never got around to giving it the time it deserves. Densha is also super on my radar too as a high brow enjoyer of multi track drifting.

Anything HD-2D gets me excited. I need Square to just start in remaking the whole Final Fantasy series with it like they’re doing with Dragon Quest. The Pixel Remasters were fine, but hot damn they could be so much moreeeeee.

I suppose to answer my own question too, I just started Orbitals last night with my partner! Absolutely fantastic coop adventure. Super fun graphics and dialogue, enjoyable puzzling, and also completely on cartridge on Switch 2. Also supports both GameShare and more traditional friend passes for playing online. Hoping to do a video for it at the end of the week, so I’ll try to mirror that over here with a review or editorial.
