Monster Hunter Wilds DLC, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Resident Evil: Veronica, and more - the big reveals of Summer Game Fest
With the Summer Game Fest presentation having run its course yesterday, I'm here to compress the key announcements into one lovely post for your convenience. If you want to sit through the whole presentation, you can find it just above regardless. I will note there were technical issues throughout when watching live, with frequent audio desyncing, so it might not be the nicest watch unless they fixed those for the VOD.
Resident Evil Veronica
After being hinted at and leaked long before the presentation started, the remake for Resident Evil: Code Veronica has been confirmed. Now just titled "Resident Evil Veronica", the game is set to launch in 2027. One small thing of note is that the entire trailer was from a first person perspective, adding a fresh perspective to the previously third-person horror title.
Mighty Cuphead Adventures
Studio MDHR, creators of Cuphead, have confirmed a brand new hand-animated title is in development. Though little was confirmed about it outside of it still being in early stages, they did also reveal a second game, Mighty Cuphead Adventures, that is much further along. Featuring "arcade quality" graphics, it pulls an entirely different thread of nostalgia while appearing to maintain much of the same core run and gun platforming as the original Cuphead. No release window was provided for either title.
Alien: Isolation 2
Released 12 years ago, the original Alien: Isolation was apparently a pretty big commercial failure according to a quick Google search. Regardless, I only seem to hear good things about it nowadays. If you're one of those people chanting the good things, you'll be happy to know a sequel is on the way. You can wishlist it now, with it releasing at some point on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series.
Control Resonant
Sequel to hit title Control was also announced in Control Resonant. Not a heck of a lot to say on this one. Very cinematic trailer with little gameplay, but you'd assume it's more of the same from the first game. And the first game was pretty well liked. Set to launch September 24th on pretty much every major platform, notably including the Mac App Store and GeForce Now, and notably excluding the Nintendo Switch 2. One day Control will be freed from the Cloud Version prison on Nintendo platforms. That day was not today.
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance
The inevitable happened. It's the Monster Hunter Wilds Master Rank DLC. We knew it was coming, we all kind of had a feeling that about now was the right timing to announce it, and it'll be launching next year. The new region being introduced is a series of disjointed floating islands, with the big tease being the return of Elder Dragons. We get to see quite a few monsters in the trailer, with fan favourite Lao Shan Lung showing up right at the end. Still no release date for a Switch 2 version though I still keep the faith it will come. I may yet take this faith to my grave.
Update:
The game is, in fact, coming to Switch 2. Though not mentioned in the big presentation full of announcements that people were actually likely to watch, it was revealed via the official Monster Hunter Twitter account. Rejoice!
Attack on Titan 3
Are you ready to pay full price for another Attack on Titan game that's basically just the previous game with a bit more story content tacked on? Sure you are! To give Koei Tecmo a bit of good will here, this should be the last game they release in the series, with it now going to the end of the story. From the trailer the game does look good, and previous titles were pretty enjoyable, so it could be one worth trying. I will note that if you're not up to date with Attack on Titan, there are kind of major spoilers throughout the trailer, so be warned. A broadcast was announced at the end of the trailer to air on the 1st of July with more details, but at the very least we can confirm the game is launching on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch 2.
PalWorld 1.0
For all you Pokemon deniers out there, it's time to get some annual leave booked in. PalWorld will move out of Early Access and into its 1.0 release on the 10th of July! The trailer didn't really elaborate much on what we'll be getting from this update, being largely cinematic, but I assume it'll be cool. There was a big dragon thing and a tree. I know we like to compare PalWorld designs to Pokemon, but those shown off in this trailer really do bring me back to Monster Hunter more. The mechanical dragon was very Valstrax-coded, and the big dragon, though you could pull some Rayquaza comparisons, really made me think of the Amatsu more. Either way, one to look forward to.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain
It really doesn't seem that long since the first game dropped, but here we are getting a sequel. The trailer is pretty cinematic, introducing new protagonist Evie in a suitably skin-tight suit to match the larger vibes of the original. It does look fun though. It's also worth throwing out here that Shift Up, the studio behind the game, broke up with Sony as their publisher last month. That means that we're likely to see this game reach other platforms despite Sony's move towards more exclusive titles. No platforms or release dates confirmed yet though.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation
And closing out the presentation we have the final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. Revelation looks absolutely massive, and sees Cloud and the gang running around the world beating up the ultimate weapons. If you have no clue what any of that means, it's probably time to start playing the first two parts. Revelation is set to launch early next year across all platforms the first two parts are currently available. No more limited time PlayStation exclusivity! That means PC, Xbox Series, and even Switch 2, will be enjoying it at the same time. How it will run on Switch 2 is yet to be seen, though after positive reception from the first two parts, I would be hopeful for a solid port.
There Was More
Obviously I've hand-picked a few titles that looked interesting to me, but there certainly was more shown in the presentation. Notably very little in the way of Switch 2 games were present, which does add credence to the rumours of a Nintendo Direct dropping in the coming days and weeks. If it does happen we'll be on top of it, so keep an eye on the front page!
