Hello,

I don't understand, is the game Over Served on Sega Saturn a CD or a cardbrige? (In my Sega Saturn I just put CD games for playing, but I can put cardbrige for an action replay... When I look at the website of this game I believe to see that will be a cardbrige, maybe it's new to play from a cardbrige...).
If it's a cardbrige, can we play it on a Sega Saturn no modified?

Have a good day ^^.

I think the unmodified Saturn was always capable of booting from cartridge.

Just double checked the dev bios manual and that is the case, even bypassing the Saturn logo animation.

There is one error message I find a bit weird:
“Game cartridge unsuitable for this system”
Displayed when a non-SEGA SATURN cartridge is inserted in the SEGA
SATURN. Be sure to check the type of cartridge being used.

Considering it's to my knowledge a proprietary port, I don't know if this is Sega being vague e.g. a hardware fault could trigger this or if it's a sign of some theorised ideas like the console having MD/Gen BC and a 32X cart would trigger the error.

I'd link to the doc but not sure if the mods would like it.

Maybe a action replay or 3rc party device protection was planned for the cartridge port at some point at the bios level?

Maybe, considering they lost the TMSS lawsuit in court and something like the CIC lockout would be an additional cost.

They also did use encryption for the MPEG Video CD module:

Really someone would have to decompile the BIOS and look for the conditions which triggers the error message.

huh. I wasn't aware that the Saturn could theoreticall

Specifies cartridge, with a few physical details mentioned. I think the unmodified Saturn was always capable of booting from cartridge, it was just never used for games.

I did a google and turns out Saturn had TWO official cartridge game releases. King of Fighters '95, and Ultraman: Hikari no Kyojin. I 100% didn't know this, and I've owned a Saturn since the 90's. It's got a modchip so I've got no shortage of games to play on it, but I really am surprised to learn that there were (only two) actual cart games for it. So there could have been more, just you know, consumer sentiment was all about discs then.

I have these cartridges for Saturn, i.e. the only official use for cartridges on the console that I'd ever heard of before now.

Wow, I always think it was just an extension for the memory or something like that in order to help the CD game Oo.
