Hello everyone !

I’m new to all of this and I’ve been searching this sub, reddit and google, but no luck so far. Any help is appreciated!

I just bought a V1 switch to mod but it turns out it was already modded (it came with an rcm loader, jig, and an sd card). My issue is that it’s not loading in rcm mode, nothing happens (black screen).
The rcm loader seems updated (2022). Led light up when connected to pc. No light when loader is plugged in switch in rmc mode.

The SD card is not detected on the switch, but is readable on PC and has what I assume all the firmware and apps.
Seller was only able to help by saying that the loader needs charging and that the sd card should be show up when booted with rcm loader. It’s been charging for more than an hour and still no luck.

I formatted the sd card, factory set the switch, but sd card still not showing up in switch, tried another sd, same issue.

After that, I followed the NH switch guide to mod (without rcm loader) but got stuck at sd card error.

Please tell me there’s an easy fix for this and not a sd card reader issue

I apologise if I have missed anything, feel free to ask for more info!

sounds like the sd card reader on the switch is faulty, you can by a replacement and fit it yourself, personally i'd go ban to the seller and ask them about it.

When you fomatted the sd card did you format it as fat/fat32/ntfs?

If you formatted as ntfs it won't work in the switch, if you formatted as exfat but don't have exfat firmware installed it won't work. You should try formatting as fat32 or exfat or boot into System nand and get the switch to format it for you from the settings menu.

I think they sold you a faulty console man. You can try reformatting the card with guiformat (http://ridgecrop.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm) but probably you should try to get a refund.

Try booting into the official firmware.
If you just get a black screen, the probably AutoRCM is enabled and the Switch is waiting for a payload to be injected.
Try LockPickRCM to see if you can successfully inject a payload.
If that fails, something is probably wrong with your USB-C port (try Rekado or TegraRCM as well to exclude your RCMLoader is not working; batteries inside those things might have gone bad after 10 years).

If is does work, install Hekate/Atmosphere.
If it complains about a missing SD card, the probably also something is wrong with your SD card reader.
Sometimes it is dust or some gunk.
But it could be a broken SD card reader board or the connector on the main board.
An SD card reader costs a few dollars to replace if you can do it yourself.
Or have it done by a repair shop.

I'll try a couple of things suggested here by other users before refunding it. The Switch is in good condition, would love to keep it. Thank you for the link, I shall try reformatting it as well.

I did the regular format on pc, which is exfat. I'll try doing fat32 through a link given by another user. Thanks for the reply!

Make sure the sd card is MBR not GPT partition scheme it can be changed with minitool partition wizard.
Appreciate the reply. It shows MBR when running minitool partition wizard.
Also, CMD doesn't show an asterix on GPT column, so I assume it's MBR.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does booting into official firmware mean ?

AutoRCM is already switched off.
When injecting a payload to the switch through TegraRCM, it was successful. You might be right about the RCMloader battery. However not having the loader is not a huge issue, I can always use my pc instead.
I will try the LockPickRCM, thanks for that.
Since the sd card reader and kit were quite cheap here, I already ordered one yesterday. Should be here today. I've got zero experience with electronics, so I'll follow some YT tutorials.

On thing to note is, when booting the switch normally I can see system update is at 22.1.0. I'm thinking maybe the previous owner update it normally and it's conflicting with the sd card firmware version.

I'm still very new to this so please excuse me if I'm not always making sense. Thank you again !

Usually it isn't the SD reader but the connector on the motherboard, and it's not an easy replacement. Requires skill with microsoldering and hot air.

The battery might got bad you can tell if it has, if after you charge it and you press the + button nothing flashes

If it does flash, you want to hold down the + button until it changes color, then do the same thing and make sure it changes to blue. (Blue is for atmosphere)

If you're injecting it through the computer, I believe you need the nintendo switch driver

You can also load payload through android using Rekado. You need to make sure you're using a data cable. Switch should be in RCM Mode, then connect the cable to the switch then other end to your android and Rekado should be able to detect it then inject payload

Thanks for the reply ! You're right the RCMloader's battery seems dead. I'll be doing the payload injection through the pc, all good there.

Update: I want to thank everyone here for their reply. I received the repair kit + sd card reader yesterday and was able to fix the issue (beginner's luck). I followed the NH Guide and modded the switch with emummc !
