New 2DS XL black screen upon exiting settings

i have been scouring the internet for ages now trying to fix an old 2ds xl that was second hand upon purchasing it ages back and it has no nand backup as the shop sold it modded with no sd card.

the 2ds xl fully works gm9, luma3ds it can get to the home page and play any game you give it BUT when you attempt to close certain games and apps like pokemon sun or moon / usun or umoon, settings apps, dsi download play it will go to a black screen (no backlight) with the power and wireless light on and never turn off unless i hold down the power button for an extended time.

things i have tried: ctrtransfer to the same region (eu to eu) then update, system format, letting it die and recharging, different sd cards, updating luma or gm9, i have run a hardware test (3ds_hw_Test i think it was) and it reported 0 errors

Does the Home screen show up after closing other apps, particularly GBA VC titles? Odd if Home loads initially and only opening Settings does this. To the best you can, did you reset everything? Are any changes you make remembered at next boot?

Most games let me return to the homescreen such as things like , didn't have any GBA VC titles at hand when i had my ds out but from what i can rememeber i made sure to try the problem games like Pokemon Ultra Moon and Settings, i also did try DSi etc games iirc they gave me issues, unfortunately i have no NAND backup since the stupid shop took it and resold at full price modded and busted...

1. turn off wifi and see if there's improvement


could be a bug exiting high memory mode games.
try the following

1. download sysupdater
2. download latest firmware for 3ds 11.17.0-50U
3. run sysupdater and update
4. try again

if no improvement, do a system initialization as this usually fix issues with high memory apps/games

Tried CTRTransfer Type D9, am still on 11.5.* but no luck, ive noticed any form of system reboot also sends it to a black screen and stays with power light on and does nothing

Forgot to reply to this too, i didnt have it connected to the internet anyway, tried sysupdater, same problems. its not just extended memory mode it also cannot do restarts either...

I'll re-explain, so basically this 2ds xl works relatively fine and i bought it "boxed" from a uk reseller that came modded with luma3ds, boot9strapper, godmode9 on the nand from whoever modded it initially and the sd card it came with had no nand backup or anything of importance so practically empty.

The only issues it has which is the main issue is, If i enter into an app that uses extended memory mode, open any DSi apps / games, open system settings or whenever the system attempts to reboot it will throw itself into a black screen with the power led and network led still on and never go back to the home screen even if i leave it for hours which results in me having to do a force shut down with holding power button for however long.

ive tried: ctrtransfer, ctrtransfer d9, sysupdater after going to 11.5.0, updating luma etc all to no luck. hopefully this makes it clear

I see, that's the same thing you wrote in your first post. I thought you were referring to something new and different.

I guess that covers pretty much everything, then. Did you try asking on the Discord?

Ive tried the discord a few times and didnt really get too much help sadly...
