Hi everyone,
I’m having an issue with a PS5 Digital Edition (EDM-020).
The HDMI port had previously been replaced (not by me), but the soldering was done very poorly.
I removed it and installed a new HDMI port, making sure the soldering was clean and solid.
While I was at it, I also replaced a damaged USB port.
Now, the console boots up fine and displays an image, but I’m running into a strange problem:
Because of this, I’m ruling out an HDMI port issue, since a faulty port would just cause a video dropout, not a full return to the home menu.
I’m currently downloading GTA V to see how it behaves in-game.
My guess is that it might be related to the SSD controller or possibly the GDDR5 memory.
Any advice or ideas would be really appreciated — thanks everyone!

- The screen randomly goes black for 1–2 seconds.
- Then, the console returns to the main dashboard.
- For example, if I’m inside the system settings, the screen flashes black and I’m suddenly back on the home screen.
Because of this, I’m ruling out an HDMI port issue, since a faulty port would just cause a video dropout, not a full return to the home menu.

Has anyone ever run into this issue? When keeping a game open and entering the system settings, the problem doesn’t occur, so I suspected it might be related to the duty-cycle generation of the XDPE14286A, since it only seems to happen when the system is idle. I’ve already replaced the XDPE, but the issue still persists! Any theories or suggestions are welcome!
