I have removed an SD card while Nintendo Switch was in a sleep mode. Error screen has popped up immediately (something with Atmosphere logo, didn’t read it) and I have reinserted the card. But after reboot I have stuck at the Nintendo Switch logo screen (joycons with Nintendo Switch written beneath them).

I didn’t do anything else, other than stupidly removing SD card.

After that, I have tried to:

  • Scan SD card for errors on Windows. Everything was fine with the card.
  • Rename bootloader and switch folder. System didn’t start because of missing file.
  • Download and copy to SD card the latest releases of Atmosphere, Hekate, fusee.bin and sigpatches. I have copied only newer files to existing folders via Windows Explorer. System starts, but it stuck at the logo screen for hours.
  • Boot to OFW while bootloader folder was temporarily removed. System starts, everything seems to be fine. I can see and start my only OFW game, haha
  • (I don’t have kip-related lines in my Hekate.ini file)
What I have right now: Each time after rebooting (with Power button pressed down for 10-20 seconds), I see Hekate logo, then Atmosphere splashscreen, then Atmosphere logo (this stage takes approximately 17 seconds), then Nintendo Switch logo – and I’m still looking at this logo.

Please, share your knowledge with me – what can I do? It’s the first time I’m experiencing such a problem. Before, it was OK for me to remove and reinsert SD card (for copying newer CFW and OFW), but my console was turned off during that process.

My specs: Nintendo Switch with SX modchip, with 17.01 Firmware. My SD card is genuine Samsung 256 Gb with 14 GB of free space.

somewhere in hekate menu there is a way to check the read and write and iirc pins of the memory card
take a look at that and see what u can find
sometimes just turning the console off for a while might just fix

also are u able to get into the stock firmware?

p.s next time try not to remove the sd card and instead go into usb mode via hekate or home-brew always better idea

Psd99, thank you so much for your advises!

Yes, I was able to get into the stock firmware.

Hekate test didn´t find any faults on my memory card. I´ve tried to put my console to (temporary) rest, but to no avail.

I've ended up buying a new memory card. Finally, with brand new installation of Hekate, Atmosphere, etc, everyting seems to be in order. I have to reinstall all of the games, of course. Thus, the mistery of previos SD card is not solved. But I can live with my new memory card.

Glad you solved your problem using a new SD card. Don't forget to heed the warning from @Psd99 and avoid removing the SD card from your Switch. It's generally a bad idea to do so. You could damage the SD port, which is fragile. For files transfers (updating your CFW for example), everything can be done through Hekate's USB tool. Installing games can be done with apps like DBI or TinWoo, also through USB. I haven't pulled my SD card from my Switch in years.

Dear all, many thanks for your responses!
I will never make the same mistake again. I did remove the SD card countless times before, and there were no problems. But now I understand that the risk is too high.
BTW, what is the average lifespan of the SD card, assuming that the NIntendo Switch is being used everyday?
My previous SD card (Samsung Evo Plus 256 Gb) served me well for 4 years.
