Hey everyone!

I need some help with a Switch V1. Yesterday, a friend of mine bought a Switch, and we noticed that there were pending updates for some games. We turned off the console to put Gold Leaf on the SD card to delete those notifications. When we tried to power it back on, we realized it was a V1, and it’s now stuck on a black screen.

I personally have a Switch Lite, so I’m not familiar with the process of injecting the payload for the V1 to boot it up again. We know the Switch needs to be in RCM mode to inject the payload, but since the console is stuck on the black screen, we’re not entirely sure if it's actually in RCM or just unresponsive (also we dont own any jig).

We reached out to the modder who worked on the console, and he mentioned using NX Loader, but didn’t go into further detail.

Could someone guide me through how to inject the payload and get the console booted up again? He has a Mac and an Android phone with type C, so an OTG adapter is not needed.

Thank you s2

Check if Switch is in autorcm. Just connect switch v1 to pc and check if APX Device is present in Device Manager. If so, just use TegraRCM to inject latest hekate. If not, try to hold power button for like 10-15 seconds and boot again.

EDIT: NX-Loader is a RCM Loader for Android. Some Android Devices work, some dont. You can try download it from playstore and give it a try.

Should we use the hekate_ctcaer located on the root of the SD Card or should it be the latest version?
We haven't even tried to inject any payload to not mess with anything, but we did try to hold the power button for 20/30s, and also the power button + the volume up button but nothing managed to boot the console. It stays on black screen.
thank you for the information!

You can use the payload on the sd card. normaly it should be a payload.bin file on root of sd card.

EDIT: Seems like the Switch V1 is in AutoRCM. Just inject the payload located on the sd card with TegraRCM or NX-Loader. Whatever method you use for injecting payload.

You need a jig if it is not in autoRCM.
We will check if APX Device is present as @R0nny01 mentioned above. If not, I guess we'll have to buy one of those!

I'm not entirely sure if he has a payload.bin on the SD card, but we'll check it later. I think there was only a hekate_ctcaer_xxxx file on the root, which I've deduced was the payload needed to boot into hekate!
Anyways, many thanks. Things just got clearer now.

Rekado also but it's not on the Play Store, you have to sideload the apk.

You never need to turn the Switch off, if you reboot into Hekate (while holding vol- to cancel autoboot) you can safely remove the SD while in the menu, or enable USB mass storage then you don't need to remove the SD and wear out the slot.
