patched switch but it tried to load a payload...??

So, I got my hands on a spare RCM jig from work, and having an already patched switch, (the serial no. starts with XKJ), i was curious about what would happen if i injected a payload onto my patched switch.

I expected it to do absolutely nothing, BUT for some reason it made an attempt to inject the payload, the program immidietely crashed, no error no nothing, and my switch was stuck in fucking RCM PURGATORY.
(i held the power button for like 20 seconds and that did the trick but god knows i aint trying that again)
(but i AM curious; isn't it supposed to stay at "NO RCM"? Or throw an actual error?)

No, if it's patched it will just be a black screen forever as well. It's waiting for a payload after all, but a signed one.

Even patched units can enter RCM and can be detected as an RCM device. The exploit was that it allowed running custom payloads here instead of just signed ones.

Damn, I somehow thought I won the silicon lottery or something and they somehow put an unpatched switch in the mario odyssey bundle (the "MAR10 day" one specifically, with the OLED packaging.)
