Is it safe for me to snap off the screen+lid of my laptop?

I have an old Toshiba satellite. It’s screen is broken and the battery’s dead, but i’ve had quite some fun using FreeDOS on it. The only problem is that the screen blocks the monitor, so I have to position the laptop diagonally. If I snap off the hinge and screen of the laptop (without carefully disassembling it and disconnecting the wires) will there be any exposed wires that would be particularly dangerous?

Why not just open it up and dismantle it? Instead of a ugly crack.
It's a Toshiba Satellite. They're easy to open last time I were in one.

depending on the laptop it might refuse to boot because it thinks there's still a screen attached but can't output to it, like if you just break off the top screen of a DS

you're better off disassembling it and properly removing the screen connector and hinges

edit: also most laptops put the wifi antennae in the screen, so if you just rip it off you'll also break the wifi antennae and get a significantly worse connection, assuming you use wifi on it

Done it in the past with COMPAQ laptops which displays were completely dead. Plugging in a VGA monitor actually got recognized as Display 1 by Windows 7... But that doesn't mean it'll work with all. I think there might be a lot of factors to consider.

I'd recommend you to use a hammer instead.
