Hello everyone,

First time poster here. I decided to make this post since I am having issues with my Wii U. Currently, my Wii U will not boot up to the main menu. It stays stuck on the Wii U logo indefinitely.

There are a few things to note about my console. The console is the black 32 gb model. I believe it was bought during the 2012 holiday season (release) as we were expecting to play Pikmin 3 before it got delayed. The system has never been modded in any fashion. It was not the most heavily played console, and I can't even give a good estimate of when it was last used (at least more than 3 years).

I have already tried doing the UDPIH, however it does not seem to be working. When using the second recovery menu, I get a white screen with some blue lines (see attached image). I believe this is similar to what @fadafwet described in his post. I was able to get the logs from the system, which I have attached to this post. Any idea what the issue may be and how to fix it? Any help would be much appreciated.

Seems to be. My last post was actually originally me having trouble getting to the minute menu, but I realized I forgot to put fw.img on the SD card which is a bit embarrassing. I'm in the menu right now though which is good.

I have boot1_slccmpt.img on the root of my SD card. I'm guessing that on the minute menu I should choose patch SLC and boot IOS (slc) since boot1_slccmpt needs to be patched to slccmpt?

That makes sense now that I remember back to that menu. I chose "DUMP BOOT1_SLCCMPT.RAW" and it seems to have been successful. I have my micro SD card formatted with a 1.5 GB FAT32 partition while the rest of the space is taken up by an NTFS partition. On the FAT32 partition I have fw.img, my wafel_install folder with all the titles, a minute folder with rednand.ini, and the wii u folder with the ios_plugins, including wafel_setup. I put that card into the slot of my Wii U but I couldn't get to the minute menu. I feel like I missed a step.

No, dump writes it from the slccmpt to the file on the SD. You want to restore it from the file to the slccmpt boot1.
You now have to replace the file on the SD again, because you overwrote it with the dump

That did it. I guess I was thinking in reverse. I just deleted the dump and proceeded to restore, and it seems to have worked. I'm installing the titles right now. I'm not sure if it's done though because although the power LED is solid blue, there's still activity in the terminal such as this:
Code:
00:12:10:160: NET: Change admin state (1 -> 2)(iface:0 link:2)
00:12:13:162: NET: Change admin state (2 -> 1)(iface:0 link:2)

Looks like it was completed. Seems to have only installed the MLC titles though.

I'm attaching the setup log. It looks like all the MLC and SLC titles were installed properly. Following that redNAND guide, this brings me to step 7.
  • Follow through with the initial setup. After the "settings" part of the setup, it will drop you back into minute, just select Patch (sd) and Boot redNAND again.
I'm a little confused here, but if I understand this correctly, I should now just try to run my Wii U as normal and go through the setup (language and internet and whatnot), and once that's done, I'll be dropped into minute? Am I to run patch & boot like I've done before with de_Fuse so that I have that terminal window?

Alright things are looking good. I was able to boot up and go through the Wii U setup with now problems whatsoever. I now have it set to autoboot redNAND. I think I can move on to trying to transfer data from my MLC and SLC backups. If I remember correctly, it's possible some remnants of the Homebrew apps may still be around? I'm going to try to do what I had done months back and see how that goes.

I just want to double check something though. In the redNAND guide, it says the FAT32 partition is where all the homebrew goes, so that's where my wiiu folder with all my homebrew apps goes? Do I merge it with the wiiu folder already in the partition. Also, it looks like back then I used Tiramisu. Now it looks like Aroma is the focus of the Wii U hacks guide. At this point in time, should I try Aroma or just stick with Tiramisu?

So something a little odd just happened. I merged the folders and then tried turning my Wii U on again, but it just wouldn't go to the menu. I thought maybe something happened when I added the Aroma files, so I got rid of them, but that didn't solve it. I tried again, but this time with the pico plugged into my computer, and it worked first try. Any idea what might have happened?

Also as a side note, it looks like whatever issue I had with downloading game updates way back is not an issue anymore. I tried downloading the update for Pikmin 3 and it worked just fine.

If you didn't connect the 3V3 the pico is powered only by the PC. If it's not powered, it won't do the defusing and the console will try to boot normally. You could install ISFShax, so you no longer need defuse

Yeah I just realized that I don't think I ever tried turning it without de_Fuse running (in other words, without the pico being powered on). What do you recommend I do so that I can close up the console and have the disc drive in place? I've seen a picture of the pico being mounted underneath the board (on the side with all the test pads), but I don't know if it'll get in the way of anything when trying to close it up.

Also want to ask if the FTPiiU Plugin will now take the place of WiiUFTPServer that I used before. It says it runs in the background, so I'm not sure if it works the same. I can always run Tiramisu to use WiiUFTPServer.

yes, on Aroma you use the plugin. You have to enable system file access in the plugin menu.

If you install ISFShax, it can replace defuse, so you won't need the pico soldered anymore. But you could still keep it if you want. I never reassembled a console with defuse installed, but it seems possible.
You can just load the ISFShax installer from minute, loaded from defuse

So far things seem to be going pretty good. Yesterday I was able to bring over the two users I had before, plus I was also able to bring over the Pikmin 3 save data which surprisingly seems to work fine considering the fact that before, it looked like there was significant corruption. I tried bringing over the Smash Bros. save data and although it seems the file transfer worked, no actual data appears to have been brought over. What I've been doing is first creating new save data with a user, and then rewriting that folder with the save data I salvaged. This is because I had issues with creating brand new folders, but I was able to bring over the DLC folder and that sort of worked. I might try deleting the save data folder and just bring over the prior one directly.

As for the DLC, I tried starting the game only to be told that the DLC was corrupted and needed to be deleted. When I tried deleting the DLC in the settings, I got the message that a system-memory error had occurred. I needed to use FTP to delete the DLC. I'm thinking that maybe I missed a file or something (perhaps the ticket?).

Update: Still haven't had luck with the Smash Bros. save data, but I did some reading and apparently save data for Smash Bros. is shared between users, so I'm guessing it wouldn't be in the same location as the Pikmin 3 data? I'm looking around right now to see if I can find where it might be.

I saw that folder and I thought I transferred it over, but I may be mistaken. I’ll try clearing the user folder on the system and bringing both over.

Also, just out of curiosity, but how would I open the texture files (.tex) in the save folder? I'm curious if they're related to the trophies or not.

Alright so yesterday I transferred over the common folder. Had a little issue where for some reason, overwriting the folder kept failing so I had to delete it first, but once I did transfer it over, it looks like everything is there (trophies, unlocked characters, and Mii fighters). So other than the DLC which I can't help but think I might have missed a file or something, I think I've recovered everything of note. I think right now the next step is to decide if I want to keep de_Fuse or switch to ISFShax. Any suggestions?

That was my plan, but I bought the bundle where you got it for both the 3DS and Wii U, and I can't remember if it was tied to one account or if was done through codes. The interesting thing is that my brother's account is on the Wii U (not signed in to Nintendo), but I have no account on there. I'll try to figure it out. Might just make a new account and try my Nintendo ID.
