AYANEO is back with yet another handheld; this time it's an Android gaming device. The AYANEO Pocket EVO is what the company touts as the world's first 7" OLED 120Hz Android gaming handheld. It shares some specs with the AYANEO Pocket S, such as the Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 Gaming Platform but has a larger battery, integrated handgrips and a wide, 7" OLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. Some additional highlights of the handheld can be found below:

During a demo session streamed earlier this week, AYANEO CEO Arthur showed a prototype of the AYANEO Pocket EVO, which looks very similar to the AYANEO 2 Windows handheld but with Android as OS. Pricing and launch details haven't been announced at this time, but the company has an Indiegogo pre-launch page live for the handheld and, as usual, caution is advised with crowdfunded projects.

There's a very early port of Cemu for Android, i believe this device will be oke of the best to run it

Even tho mid-range phone will run it too

You should look for two devices i like alot

Ayn Odin 2 (it has a fucking 8Gen 2)
And Retroid Pocket 4 Pro (i have this one)

At the end of the day I don't think they're wrong with their statement. A controller for your probably already quite powerful phone will be better value 90% of the time, and I do think it'll do a decent job for a lot of people.

These devices do have a place imo though. A few areas I do think they improve on a phone:

• Aspect ratio
  • Phones are looooooooong, I wouldn't want to be playing 4:3 or smaller on them
  • A 16:9 display is much better (and a 3:2 display is king)
• Integrated controls do usually feel nicer
  • I've had a Kishi, Backbone, GameSir, they're all really solid, but built-in controls just have a bit more stability and feel more premium
  • You would kinda hope this though given the premium you're paying for them to be tacked onto phone hardware at a factory lol
• You get some genuinely unique form factors nowadays
  • There's the SP clamshells, Switch Lite sized ones like the Odin 2, Vita sized ones like the Odin 2 Mini, and more niche handhelds that give better battery than my phone ever could with a unique screen like the KTR1

I think it's great the amount of choice there is in the handheld space. What I do wish though is that these companies would get their shit together and just show their hand regularly so consumers could make more informed decisions as to what they want to be buying, especially at the cheaper end of the spectrum. Even at the higher end of the spectrum, AYANEO only just put out their last Android handheld and now they've revealed this to one up it? It's a slightly different form factor sure, but it does feel like something of a slap in the face for those that just bought the Pocket S.

I know these, I keep up with these news. They are just "meh" in my opinion. You can get better performance/price ratio for less money in a proper phone + controller combo.

Having a look around, the Odin 2 (currently $300) might actually be better value. You'd need to find an 8 Gen 2 phone for $200-250ish and I'm not coming up with much on eBay for that. It is a very different form factor to a phone though, so to some extent I'd argue it's targeting a different market anyway.

It's not even an ideal Genshin machine since the game doesn't support controllers on Android for some reason lol. You can work around it with screen mapping but it baffles me they haven't gotten around to adding it when it's been an iOS feature for like, years now?

Most of the speculation online is that they've got some kind of deal with Apple for the feature. It seems a very odd thing to have exclusivity on, since it'd only put people off playing their game on other platforms and not really encourage them to go out and buy an iPhone or something. A weird one for sure.

You are thinking about it in the wrong way. People usually have a phone. Fork out a little more, have top notch cameras, performance + an attachable controller and you are way better long term.

For the same money you could get a decent midrange phone and a handheld though. I will say I don't really disagree with you mind, even looking beyond the argument of value in buying new hardware, most people already have a really solid phone either way. I don't think a controller covers every use case, but it's something I wish people would consider more.
