first: how can i use a y cable if my dvd drive is 1 usb-a and 1 usb-c? and second: did you even read the post? like i leterally said it worked in my wii but couldnt get to work on wii u (after rereading the post i noticed i didn't said clearly that worked on my wii so now i edited to make that clear)Maybe it's not getting enough power, have you tried using a y cable?
Does wiimc even support external DVD drives?
how to tell you ?first: how can i use a y cable if my dvd drive is 1 usb-a and 1 usb-c?

not paying for another external dvd drive the one that i do have is a portable one that is hard wired meaning no way that i'll be able to use a y cable unless i can use the notebook dvd drivehow to tell you ?
use a DVD player with a Y cable and everything will be fine (MAYBE??). I say maybe?![]()
What does that even mean? Anyway, there's always a way to use a Y cable:how can i use a y cable if my dvd drive is 1 usb-a and 1 usb-c?

my usb dvd drive is already kinda y cable its a y cable but one of the cables its usb c and my drive works with at minimum usb 2.0 so wont work with this adapterWhat does that even mean? Anyway, there's always a way to use a Y cable:

I think posting a photo of your DVD drive will come in handy so we can get an understanding of what you're working with. As far as I'm understanding, the users telling you to use a Y cable are correct. That's all you need, a Y cable. Ignore the USB-C cord. What's the USB-C cord for? Are you powering the DVD drive with that? (how?) Is it just optional, like you can use it as USB-A or USB-C?my usb dvd drive is already kinda y cable its a y cable but one of the cables its usb c and my drive works with at minimum usb 2.0 so wont work with this adapter

the usb-c plug is for connecting on usb-c devices but none of my devices have a usb-c plug so i use the usb-a 3.0 plug but if the device dont support usb 3.0 (example: my pc) it will work as usb 2.0 (got this info with ImgBurn and the dvd drive box) and this is a pic of the dvd drive:I think posting a photo of your DVD drive will come in handy so we can get an understanding of what you're working with. That looks like a drive with a Y-cable to me... Could you tell us what brand and model the drive is cause if I'm correct all you need is a USB-C to USB-A adapter.and this is a pic of the dvd drive: View attachment 448701
Which might be the power-only end of the Y-cable and the reason your drive doesn't work at all. Again: Would need to know the brand and model of the drive to confirm.so i use the usb-a 3.0 plug
This is called backward compatibility and is required by the USB specification, so nothing special really.if the device dont support usb 3.0 (example: my pc) it will work as usb 2.0
So you tell me it violates the USB specification?my drive works with at minimum usb 2.0
Why not? What makes you believe this adapter doesn't support USB 2.0?so wont work with this adapter

yeah and answering you question not even in 2015 people did that tbh i just use cuz my pc is too laggy so dont run wellYou don't really have a right to get angry at anyone, who uses a Wii or vWii for movies in 2024?

i have no money what im thinking to do is do the mod to remove the power limiter (or whatever this is called in english) from the usb ports that not only probably will make the drive work but i also wont need an Y cableI'll leave my experience.
I tried to hook up a DVD drive to the Wii U to play movies off DVD. Branded 3Q (local), works really well. I have a superdrive as well, but it won't work and as a bonus I don't have a 2A->A Y cable.
So I take the provided 2A->B cable. One end into the Wii U, other end into nokia charger.
Unexpectedly the Wii U gets a poweroff command! I don't know why. Seriously. Plugging in a USB DVD drive powers off the Wii U, always. Both on WiiMC and mPlayer.
Can't you just buy something like a GT 1030?
