Wii U wont pick external DVD drive

with all of your help guys (none at all had to figure out all on my own) i could use wiimc on wii to watch movies and worked but im trying to use in vwii to watch movies in hdmi but wiimc dont pick the drive and the dvd drive makes no sound but the light flashes tho

first: how can i use a y cable if my dvd drive is 1 usb-a and 1 usb-c? and second: did you even read the post? like i leterally said it worked in my wii but couldnt get to work on wii u (after rereading the post i noticed i didn't said clearly that worked on my wii so now i edited to make that clear)

not paying for another external dvd drive the one that i do have is a portable one that is hard wired meaning no way that i'll be able to use a y cable unless i can use the notebook dvd drive

my usb dvd drive is already kinda y cable its a y cable but one of the cables its usb c and my drive works with at minimum usb 2.0 so wont work with this adapter

I think posting a photo of your DVD drive will come in handy so we can get an understanding of what you're working with. As far as I'm understanding, the users telling you to use a Y cable are correct. That's all you need, a Y cable. Ignore the USB-C cord. What's the USB-C cord for? Are you powering the DVD drive with that? (how?) Is it just optional, like you can use it as USB-A or USB-C?

the usb-c plug is for connecting on usb-c devices but none of my devices have a usb-c plug so i use the usb-a 3.0 plug but if the device dont support usb 3.0 (example: my pc) it will work as usb 2.0 (got this info with ImgBurn and the dvd drive box) and this is a pic of the dvd drive:

Plug the usb-a into the single end of the y-cable that @V10lator posted and plug the twin end into the console. No idea if it'll work. Or get an actual dvd player. Can you even buy dvd anymore?

That looks like a drive with a Y-cable to me... Could you tell us what brand and model the drive is cause if I'm correct all you need is a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

Which might be the power-only end of the Y-cable and the reason your drive doesn't work at all. Again: Would need to know the brand and model of the drive to confirm.

This is called backward compatibility and is required by the USB specification, so nothing special really.

Why not? What makes you believe this adapter doesn't support USB 2.0?
Also what's the difference between USB 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0 cables? Asking cause to my knowledge they should be the same (1 cable for USB VCC (5v), one cable for GND, 2 for data) and you should worry more about the general quality of the cable (diameter of the cables inside, shielding and stuff like that) than what USB version it is. Anyway, as told before I no longer think you need a Y cable as your drive most likely has one attached already, you're just using it wrong.

There are all kind of Y cables you could imagine available, you just have to find the one that matches your usecase.

//EDIT²: Found it: It's a dirty cheap no-name drive. That also means every seller just speculates about that cable and the manufacturer doesn't give any information at all.

Please use a multimeter or something to tell us if the data lines are connected on both, the USB A and the USB C male ends or not. Else we can't know if a simple USB C to A adapter will work or if you will need one of these cables I showed already.

//EDIT³: The manufacurer btw sais it's compatible with USB 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0. So you are wrong with it supporting USB 2.0 and 3.0 only.

So I take the provided 2A->B cable. One end into the Wii U, other end into nokia charger.
Unexpectedly the Wii U gets a poweroff command! I don't know why. Seriously. Plugging in a USB DVD drive powers off the Wii U, always. Both on WiiMC and mPlayer.

Can't you just buy something like a GT 1030?

i have no money what im thinking to do is do the mod to remove the power limiter (or whatever this is called in english) from the usb ports that not only probably will make the drive work but i also wont need an Y cable
