As above we would need to know what you did to achieve this, and if this game is a flash cart
If it is a basic swap of the port then should not change much. If it changes the battery and or charge management then more options creep in. Flash carts, especially some of the EZFlash offerings using NOR mode, can also be a problem here as they gobble that little bit more power, which ageing batteries might struggle with -- normally it is people using rechargeable AA batteries on an original GBA.
If you replaced the screen then sometimes things can have issues here as well. It could also be coincidence, especially if you have not used it much lately before doing this -- some people with SPs find running the battery down and then charging up does better for SPs for some reason. Equally check the pins in the GBA slot -- they are not as prone to bending as some but it can be a problem, as might dirty pins that if you unplugged to do the mod you might not have got back in the position it knows works, some also rather than ramming it home find pulling it out a tiny bit helps.
One check you might try is try both running the game without the charger plugged in and running it with.
