Hello All,

I noticed that my 3DS has been using a lot of data while setting idle in clamshell mode. I've never noticed this before but it seems odd that it would need use 10 GiB of data in a 24 hour period while sleeping in clamshell mode. Has anyone noticed ever noticed this? I'm concerned something phishy might be going on with Luma or perhaps I've configured something incorrectly.

I'll have to check it out when I get home. I intentionally left it in clamshell mode while I was away and there was little to no activity on my network. After ~48 hours i'm seeing:

Sounds like you have a background thing running. Check if this happens while in a payload (GodMode9), if so, something's wrong with your 3DS, it shouldn't need internet there. If not, check for sketchy homebrew, or if you're running 3GX Loader Edition, try disabling your Payload Loader
(Again, test for this)

To my knowledge, Luma3DS does not have any functionality that should be causing this. I am not sure what's causing this for you because I've never seen this and I even checked to see what my 3DS was up to on my network before making this post. Outside the data I used to download some games, nothing remarkable was shown on my network.

Yeah, I think maybe they have network activity on all time.

The obvious guess would be Spotpass, but that doesn't mean much - all sorts of applications can register such services (there's a developer tool to check that but it's not very practical to interpret, IIRC), it might be an update attempt if the console has something to download but fails*, ...

* Not practical or common on 3DS where updates aren't really a single package nor go in a dedicated folder, but the classic trick against Kindle updates (update.bin.tmp.partial) was to create a folder of the same name, overwriting a folder with a file or deleting it in the same way as a file are deliberately not possible at the kernel level, update process doesn't know what to do anymore

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
