Nintendo adds Custom Items feature in new update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

A new free update is available for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, adding the ability to select specific items in races. Using this feature allows players to restrict certain items, allocate them based on teams, or even have wild matches where only Blue Shells are available. You can apply this to offline races, and some online modes as well.

Reminds me of a very similar function in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (and the prequels to some extent) where you can select the items you want to make appear in battle or none at all.

So if I activate only the blue shell, everyone (including me on 1st place) will get it in both item slots all the time? Sounds funny.

Thank god no more lightning bolts and coins...I'd wouldn't care since I'm still on the modded MK8 for Wii U.
Do they or will they have the option to change the amount of laps? If so, I can put down the Wii U and pick this up for Switch.

....I may still play Wii U because of mods though...
