Hey guys,

I never used sys-clk before, so this is mostly a post to understand the risks and if anybody tried it with Mario and Rabbids sparks of hope.

Sadly, the game runs poorly in the open world and goes often in the low 20s. So, I was considering if I can sensibly overclock a little bit to have a stable framerate.

I saw another mentioning 4IFIR, but nothing for sys-clk.

Thoughts?

4IFIR is a collection of components that includes sys-clk.

Overclocking is a little bit of science with a whole lot of art and individual judgement. Every Switch has potential to behave a little differently. The point of the stock settings was to pin them where all switches would perform comfortably under similar settings. Overclocking is the art of squeezing out a few more cycles to improve a specific use case. My recommendation is that you set the goal you’d like to see and then gradually increase you settings while watching your specs using Status Monitor Overylay and stop when you a) reach your goal or b) start seeing issues with your particular Switch…whichever comes first.

Be safe!

I use sys-clk with Mario Rabbids Sparks Of Hope for 30 hours now.
I use the uncapped version with CPU set to stock, RAM to 1600 MHz and GPU to 617 MHz. Works great. But I use it in combination with this mod to have a better visual experience:

That's great news, I'll give it a shot, thank you.

Is that mod worth it? I don't mind the graphic too much, but the spikes below 30fps are truly awful

Yes the mod is totally worth. The graphics are so much better and clearer, I would not go back to the original bluriness of the game.

So I tried out the patch and the overclock. The game looked so much better with the patch, but performance got even worse, even after I overclocked the GPU to ~800mhz and the ram to 1600mhz.

I was willing to do more tests, and sys-clk seemed to be working with tesla, but I tried to open it via the gallery and it crashed my switch twice, which was a bit disappointing, especially considering that I updated to the last atmo and prepped the SD card from scratch, just to avoid random issues.

So, yeah, overclocking seems very flaky and overall not worth it, sadly.

Spark of hopes is just one these games that would really benefit from a more powerful switch, like bayonetta 3 and a few others.

GPU, sorry. Autocorrect
Did you also touch the CPU? Man honestly I don't believe you setup that correctly, in my experience I never have problems with moderate overclocking to get stable framerates. Can't live without them anymore.

Perhaps you overdid it and the system overheats, which results to lower performance? Also describing what got worse might helps, maybe post your setup too.

That´s odd. I have 617 MHZ GPU, 1600 MHZ Ram and stock CPU and with the patch installed it runs very smoothly at nearly 30 fps all the time. And more is not necessary for a game like this in my opinion.
Are you really sure that your overclock is working?

Well, Tesla said so,and before crashing, I could see the service active in the sysclk app

Checked the temperature and it was 47degrees, I didn't touch the CPU.

I'm in terra flora right now, and in the open world the game, with patch and overclock, was running at 15 fps when I was rotating the camera.

I just updated the fw to the latest 15.0.1. I'll reinstall tesla and sys-clk and give another shot :-)

So I did another test, without the patch this time around. The overclock worked, but the max I can go with the GPU is 921mhz, which improved the frame rate slightly, but it still goes below the 30fps marks, mostly in the open world.

The ram is already at 1600mhz in docked mode, so can't do much there.

Perhaps the new patch for Mario+Rabbids tewaks this a bit.
In the changelog it is stated:
"eneral optimization to increase framerates and ensure smooth gameplay"

I see. Just wanna add that in some cases, CPU tweaks are necessary too.
