Edited this with more clarity now that I've done more testing, although have not solved this issue:

LATEST SYSTEM MENU WITH PATCHED IOS80

INSTALLED WADS ON SD CARD!

For YEARS I've had the N64 collection running off the SD Card menu with NO ISSUES! Everything worked like butter baby!

Recently I expanded my collection and added some Wiiware titles I wanted to play. Initially everything went smoothly. All titles installed and all titles launched and tested perfectly. However, a few days later I booted my Wii and a few titles were grey ? marks and failed to launch error came up. Peculiar. If I sat on the SD card screen, sometimes the title's channel animation/image would appear and it would launch. If I exited the SD card and re-loaded, sometimes it would fix the problem for many of the titles. Some titles aremore problematic than others. Some only are grey ? sometimes. Others are grey ? pretty much all of the time.

What fixes the issue is if I move the data to the wii and then back to the SD card, or copy the data to my PC than back to the SD card. Then all is well... at least temporarily.

I've tried getting a new SD card. No luck. :( The problem persists.

Has ANYBODY experienced this issue before? It does not matter what region the wads are in.

A patched ios80 is required assuming u are on 4.3. If you are on 4.2 u need a patched ios70, 4.1 a patched ios60. So if you aren't on 4.3 you might still be missing a patched system menu ios
iirc, ios 80 shouldn't even exit on a lower firmware. I know about ios60, 70, and 80 from 4.1 up to 4.3. with that being said, I think the problem isn't that, though I didn't read the op. :rofl2:

Ios80 is patched and I'm on 4.3.

This issue is truly bizarre. For years the entire n64 library launched fine. However, I just booted up my Wii and some of those games were grey question marks and wouldn't launch. But DIFFERENT ones this time. Upon system reset most were okay besides Zelda Majora's Mask. I had to move to the system and back to the SD card upon which it would load again. And I believe this is the US version of the game!

One Wii Ware game is giving me this issue persistently and its the fifth Strong Bad game.

Maybe it's my SD card that's failing. It is quite old.

So it's not the SD Card. I tried a brand new one and this issue persists.

I reinstalled a patched trucha ios80 WAD. As I've said, the only things that I've changed recently are I've installed some WiiWare games and moved them to the SD card. Before it was just N64 games which never failed to display and launch correctly in the SD card menu.

I've tried applying priiloader hacks. I've tried disabling them. Nothing seems to have an effect.

If I move the data to the system menu and back to the SD card it temporarily fixes the issue-- only for it to pop back up. The same few titles are problematic and will appear as grey question marks and will fail to load. Some titles it happens to "sometimes", others it happens to "frequently", and two it happens to "almost always".

I really am stumped. I cannot find anybody else with this issue.

I really want to fix this issue. I much prefer launching all titles off of SD card menu due to he limitations from Emunand (compatibility with cIOS emunand, and neek having to run isolated from the rest of the system). This setup has been working for me for years.

Am I missing something obvious? I'm pulling my hair out over here.

Not sure if it's the region that's throwing it off. I have a North American console and several of the games with the issue are North American titles. Other PAL games are loading fine.

Maybe some of the data has become corrupted. I'm going to try to completely install the wads completely fresh to a completely fresh SD card and see if that solves it. Wish me luck.

Well I'm about to give up. This issue persists and I've tried everything. :( I've not seen anybody else with this issue and I've tried everything.

That's going to be my next move. I didn't do it previously because the drawbacks of Emunand. Compatibility of cios Emunand and neek running in a separate environment.

My two cents. Patching ios 80 is not worth it. It allows loading from SD card, yes, but when launched, the system transfers the game to nand, and once you're done playing, a shadow copy of the game is left on the nand, taking up space.

Really? Is there anyway to "clean" them off? Does the Wii mark these shadow copies to be overwritten if they haven't been used in a while? I would've thought Nintendo took this into account since you can fit 240 games on an SD card...

I don't really use my wii mem for anything besides saves anyhow.

But GOOD NEWS.... I think. I believe I FIXED THE ISSUE. I took the advice above earlier and restored a nand backup with bootmii. It didn't work. However, I found an even older nand backup from years ago on an older HD. After restoring that... Things have been working. For now at least.

I think something got corrupted when I was installing games or I might've messed something up enabling priiloader hacks I wasn't familiar with.

Thank you @M4x1mumReZ

I don't know if they remain forever, but I had turned off the system, turned it back on, and it was still there. you'll have to look in data management where they're stored in cache. the split games on the ps3 do the same thing.

Wait you're seeing them visibly in your wii menu? That's never been an issue for me. I thought you meant it was in the background. I also have never seen them in data management. Just saves.

no, the shadow copy is on your nand, taking up space. it defeats the purpose of even putting them on an sd card. I'd say go with an emunand, which afaik, has unlimited space.

Couple days ago, this temper jonblaze55 messaged me regarding Patched Wads, he's having the same problem of (?) channels getting installed.

He managed to load them completely fine through USB Loader. Thr thing is, that this guy jonblaze55 doesn't has an emuNAND so "the shadow copy" shouldn't exist?
I'm not exactly sure why channels with (?) loads fine through USB Loader without emuNAND though.

Probably the same issue is going on here.

My guess is corrupted channels, maybe corrupted tickets getting installed?

EDIT: Maybe wrong ID's?

How can you launch files on an sd card through usb loader gx? Didn't know it supported that. Or was he using something different?

So I spoke to soon earlier. NOT FIXED. Problem started up again earlier today. :( But I did notice something different after playing with it a bit more. Maybe this is a clue.

It appears that the SD card menu only loads two screens worth of content at a time....

When I have problematic games with grey question marks that won't load.... I can almost always eventually get them to display their title animation and thus load if I just scroll back and forth a couple of screens in the SD menu a few times.

I am also noticing that when I'm facing this issue I can't oress the home button in the SD menu. It freezes my Wii.

You can make an emunand, just change custom folder. You can inject Wad files through features I usb loader gx.
Ah I thought you meant launch nand installed games. I'm aware of emunand and It's pluses and drawbacks :)
