I so rarely pop in, but felt like venting a bit. My so called friend, who is much older, not a gamer, and barely even knows what a PS3 is joked that he was sure he could get a PS3. I said, if you're so sure, then pick me one up, the 60GB version, and I'll pay you back. So, the ass goes last night, Wednesday the 15th at around 8PM to a local Wal-Mart,
passes everybody in line and goes to speak to the lady in electronics. I get a gloating call from him saying, guess what, I have my PS3, on the day before the midnight launch, and asked if I could hook it up for him.
He didn't even know what version he bought.
I was like great, how'd you do that, and what happened to getting me one? Apparently, he goes into Wal-Mart frequently enough that he noticed that the lady manager has the hots for him and after a short bit of flirting and negotiating, he walked out with one hidden away in a diaper bag. Ok, at this point, I'm a bit peeved as he says he might try to get me one, but that they have already sold all of their other stock to employees, but just aren't telling the people outside waiting in line.
So, today, the bastard has the audacity to call me up and ask me if $900 for his PS3 would be a good amount to sell it for, after we had already had a discussion about how I despise the loathsome scum that go to grab the systems only to sell them on EBay keeping those who actually want them from buying them - this of course being after I had already asked that he get me one as a favor as my friend. He calls me later and tells me that a mutual friend of ours, a gal who basically wants to hook up with him as well, overheard him talking about it and flipped out practically begging to buy it off of him, so he called me to ask what a good price would be.
At that point, I was like you know what, do whatever the hell you want, just don't tell me anymore about it because I don't want to hear it and hung up.
He called back later and said he had spoken to the lady and she said she was getting another shipment soon, mostly 60GB versions and that he would get me one then, at which point I said, I don't care and I'll just get one another time. He then had even more nerve to say, Great, I asked for nothing then? I said we'll see and just ended it.
Man, you think you know somebody. It's amazing how something as silly as a Video Game System launch can bring the worst out in people. He is normally not concerned with money or spending it, but in this instance, apparently wanted to prove a point and make a profit on it at the same time. He's hardly ever at home, always on the go, would never use it and knows I'm almost completely the opposite, and would use it for not only the games, but also the Blu-Ray movies. If the roles were reversed, I would have gotten him one, but I guess I take my friendships more seriously and try to deliver when a favor is asked of me.
Oh well, end of rant. Congrats to those getting their systems. I can't wait to get one and try it out on my 71" 1080P HDTV. Awesomeness awaits, but will just have to wait a little longer.
