Official GBAtemp Discussion Channel
Chat with your fellow tempers
We are proud to announce the creation of the GBAtemp IRC network, which will allow members and visitors of GBAtemp to have live discussions in our dedicated chatrooms. In order for chatters to easily join our chatrooms, we have enabled three different methods for connecting:

  • You may use your own IRC client, such as mIRC, X-Chat, KVIRC, ChatZilla etc. In which case, you will be needing the server address & port: irc.gbatemp.net on port 5190. The main chatroom is #gbatemp.net.
  • You may also join the #gbatemp.net chatroom using a java applet that we've set up to connect our server and join the chatroom automatically.
  • Last but not least, if you're at work behind a firewall, you also have the possibility to use our web-based chat (also known as CGI IRC) which is a lightweight client that should work in any browser, including the iPhone.
Wi-Fi nights will now be taking place on our server, as well as any special event that may require live discussion. Click here for info on how to gain access to our WiFi channel. Be aware that using our chat network requires you to follow the rules that we've established, so make sure to read them before hopping in.

Read the rules before connecting!

You might also want to read this nice little guide that will help you configure mIRC, the most popular IRC client for Windows.

NO MORE SPADE TYRANNY

So does this mean you can get warned for IRC misbehaving or still IRC stays on IRC
I figure it'd be the first one since it's hosted by GBAtemp

Great, I keep timing out, is there any reason, or is just my connection crappy?

EDIT: nevermind, remember that the ser does NOT use the normal port (6667), but the port 5190.

Meh, I like EFnet better. :S
Not much different, no need to switch.

If it is no diffrent how can you like one better.
Well this isn't specifically meant for us who already use mirc etc. to gain access to our previous channel. If anything this allows greater/easier access to the chatroom for all forum members.

(btw ZING!)

If you want mIRC to auto-register you with NickServ every time you log on, do this:

Make sure GBATemp is added as a server in mIRC. You can do this by going to Tools/Options/Server/Add and add the server to a group called GBATemp.
Then under Tools/Options/Perform click Add and pick GBATemp(your new entry) from the dropdown.
Under Perform Commands enter /msg nickserv identify

Now when you connect you will automatically be registered with NickServ. This does, of course, mean that your NickServ password will be available to anyone who can see that screen on your computer, so be aware of that.

---

If you want to connect to two IRC servers automatically when mIRC starts do this:

Add one of the servers as stated above and get to the Perform section of it.
Add /s -m to the list of Perform Commands, replacing with the name of the OTHER server you want to connect to.
Enable join on connect as usual for the first server.

Now when you connect to server 1(the server with the perform command) it will automatically connect to the server listed IN the perform command.

---

I hope that made sense.

Awesome, trying to find an efnet server that agreed with me was getting to be a chore.

quick connect to #gbatemp.net chatroom thur Mibbit
Mibbit is another web client, but a better interface, using JSAX

But... unless the server op does some steps, shown in Enable Mibbit on Your IRC Server, it will not see the real IP of the person easily, you can still ban them by ident

well, that would work well, till you get disconnect on the first server, and it on reconnect, it open up another connection to the irc.gbatemp.net server.
a better way would be to put
CODEif ($scid(0) == 1) /server -m
$scid is a variable that hold the number of server windows you have open in mIRC.

that way, it only does the new server window when there is only 1 server windows already open, not when two are open

meh I liked it when it was on EFnet because I could also be on #tod and #ds-scene without having to change networks but meh.
