So I go to Wal-mart today and bought a Piano Black PSP 2000. I asked the woman who opened up the shelf for me to grab the one in the very back, because I wanted an older PSP. She was like "Uh why?" I told her she wouldn't understand she got really pissy with me. Anyways, I believe I got an unhackable one. It came with OFW 4.01 and did nothing when I inserted my Pandora battery. I need to find out a good excuse for letting me return it. I have it packed back in the box really well and was careful, but I don't know how well they will take to console returns. Plus, it had one of those plastic clam shell casings. I know Wal-mart will return almost anything, I just need a good excuse.

If that doesn't work, I suppose I could bring this brand new PSP into Gamestop and see if they will exchange it for a used one. They might still be like WTF but I don't know. Grrrr I'm so pissed now!

Yes, but if he didn't like it, why would he open the entire thing? It took a lot of effort to get the damn hard plastic case off of it, you know, the kind where you need big ass scissors and cut along the edges and it stabs you sometimes.

Alright, here's my advice. First of all, make sure you're giving it an honest try. Research, look up tutorials, try several times. It's possible that you're doing a tiny thing wrong, and now you're going to go through the whole process of returning the thing just because of one little mistake.

If you're 100% sure that it can't be hacked, simply grab the thing, go to Wal-mart, take it up to customer service, and return it. In my experience, I've never had to give them an excuse to return a product; after all, I AM the customer. I bought the item with my damn money, and if I want to return it, then they shouldn't say no. If when you go return it, they ask you why you are returning it, you can say one of several reasons.

-You bought it for a friend, but it wasn't the right color.
-You wanted a different bundle.
-It wasn't working properly. (If you use this one, just say something like... "I tried playing one of my games on it and it wouldn't work... but it worked on my friends PSP though!" That way, they have no way of proving you're lying. If you just said "The PSP doesn't work", they could simply turn the PSP on and call you out on your lie.)
-Say you bought it as a gift for someone and they didn't like it.

But really, you shouldn't need an excuse, especially if you're just returning the PSP and buying another one at Wal-Mart. After all, they're still getting your money, so why should they care?

Well I know some one who's 360 died bought a new one from wallmart exchanged the inside components of the things and returned it with no problem saying it was a gift and the person did not like it. I also once bought a monitor and exchanged it for another one because it was not 16:9 and it had no keep aspect option. Then returned the one I exchanged for the same reason with no problems. So go ahead and try it. Worst that can happen you can get a "sorry we cant do that".

Before returning. Did you press and hold the L button before inserting the pandora? When I hacked mine I pressed it after inserting the pandora and did not work until I did it holding it before.

That's actually not such a bad idea... maybe I can buy a new DS Lite, then put my old one in the box and return it :] Although that's extremely illegal. Also, even if I return it, I'd get store credit, and not my actual cash back.

Um, in the first post you don't mention putting a mms in. That's a critical part to hacking a PSP.

Ok, well first of all, I have OFW 4.01 out of the box. I've read from several places that those ALL have the unhackable motherboard or whatever. I tried holding L and R and it either got stuck on a black screen or just booted up normally as if I had a regular battery inside. This is like the 3rd time I've taken it back out and repacked it to test it out, but I'm pretty sure OFW 4.01 or higher cannot be hacked?

Edit: Oh, and of course I had the MMS inside. Has anyone hacked a 4.01 before? From what I've read and heard, 4.01 and higher all cannot be hacked because they come with the new motherboard? And here are my sources... yes I did a quite bit of researching

Again, you need a magic memory stick (mms) to go along with the pandora battery.

Mine had a defective screen so I never really needed an 'honest-to-god excuse', but the best one would just be like "It's having compatiblity issues with PSX games" or something similar. There's no way in hell that THEY can check it right there in the store, and it doesn't matter. You don't need an excuse, it's your fucking money, but if you want one, there you go.

EDIT: Just so you know, chances are that by now ALL of their stock are 4.01+

However the newer motherboards come with the newer firmware's 99% of the time...hence the firmware is a reasonable indicator of CFW-ability in a PSP 2000. If the box code says G then bad luck....Also:

TA-090 Series
There has been reports that the TA-090 has shown up in a PSP-2000. There has been confirmed reports by Alek that it is also in the PSP-3000. This is the reason for the v1/2 listed below. The PSP-2000 version of the TA-090 is hackable with pandora. However, The PSP-3000 version of TA-090 Pandora's battery does not even turn on the PSP.

so it should be hackable right???
