ok so i got annoyed at my computer speed because its probably ten times slower than what it was before so i finally decided to download anti-viruses. i'm 90% positive that i downloaded the real ones and not the ones that pretend to be anti-viruses but are actually viruses themselves.

so i got AVG free 8.0 and zone alarm first. AVG always scans but detects NOTHING every time. i use zonelalarm and it detected a couple of things but not the big ones. and things it detects always somehow manages to come back to my computer. so that didn't work. It scans and the file its scanning clearly says trojan and i can see 20 of them go by and zone alarm just isn't picking it up.

so i got Spybot S and D the free version. finds stuff but only ad wares that come back eventually later anyways and doesn't help.

then i got SuperAntiSpyware. it always detects like 70 adwares gets rid of it then when i scan again the same ones pops up again so that didn't helps.

i used the search thing on this site about a virus and most of the user said NOD32 is really good. it didn't detect anything at all. (i got the free trial)

i guess i'm screwed? please help

These days, nobody does any of that. We all (XP users) have a good firewall and antivirus program running at all times, and if there is a problem that bad just reformat and do a clean install.

Back up your data, reformat, and do a clean install. This time get Comodo firewall.

Well...

How many programs are you running? That slows down my computer.
If you're running Windows, try ending some processes, that helps sometimes.

In safe mode, do a Ctrl-Shift-Esc, and then click on the PROCESSES tab, write up everything in there, then do the same thing in normal mode...

I'll tell you everything that's running, and if you have a virus or not.

Go to the bay, search for minipe and download the one with the most seeds (should be minipe 2006). Use this to reformat. Then grab a copy of XP SP2 Corporate or OEM (with most seeds) and install that.

I'm almost feeling sorry for you. If you get a new computer load AVG and WinPatrol onto it before you connect it to the internet.

If you have a Windows XP installation disc, re-install.

What is it with people that insist that AntiVirus and Firewalls are the best thing since sex with 2 women at once (was gonna say sliced bread, but my way is much better, lol!!)

I REFUSE to run antivirus, and a firewall! I turn ALL THAT SHIT OFF! My system runs perfectly!

I have 2 rules for me and my wife...

1) don't download anything from a website that you don't know what it is, and never download a .exe/.com/.bat file, EVER!

2) NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER download a .exe/.com/.asf/.wmv file from Limewire... EVER!!

Follow those 2 rules, and your perfectly safe! Not sure if the file you have is a virus? Run it in a VirtualMachine, or run it on a second computer not connected to the internet or home network as a test machine.

Not only do AntiVirus and Firewalls take up WAY too much room on HardDrives, but they slow performance since they are always scanning, and slow your internet connection!

EDIT:
If you want my IP address to try to hack me, I'll be more than happy to let you have it!

Yea, they don't really do any of that. You are behind a router that acts like a hardware firewall, I take it (not everybody is!) My firewall allows me to lock down folders that I don't want modified (by accident or otherwise) can give me a running process tree, shows me what is using my bandwidth and how much, allows me to stop programs from calling home, can show me a port forwarding map for my whole network, ect, ect, ect. All VERY useful.

And my AV isn't running all the time in Vista (weekly scans) but I do have NOD32 for XP

ok, dont use any of that crap. goto kaspersky.com and download Kaspersky Internet Security. It is the best AV and firewall. you can also pirate it if you want but it is worth buying. there is a 30 day trial, so try it out and let me know what you think. I havnt found anything that can get past kaspersky

Download them, use imgburn to burn them to isos. Use the first to delete everything, then use the second to install Windows.

get kaspersky and you may not have to reformat. I just used it to clean up my father in laws xp machine, and he loves porn and hasnt ran anti-virus in 3 years. I had to run the scan 5 times to keep removing stuff, but it got the job done without a format

egui.exe -- Antivirus (NOD32)
SearchSettings.exe -- Some sort of eBay search tool thingy?
svchost.exe --- Windows required file
reader__sl.exe -- another virus/spyware
opware32.exe -- ScanSoft OmniPage (OCR/Scanning)
alg.exe --- Windows required file

scslaccess.exe is "hiding"... it's supposed to be scsiaccess.exe, but you see i and l look close, so your eyes glance over it... save with hvsvc32.exe, should be Nvsvc32, not H...

Your best bet, back up EVERYTHING, and WIPE your drive... don't backup any EXE/COM files if you can help it... if you need to save these, be sure you SCAN them before you put them back on your system!
