"Save data exploits" were just patched in various games. What exactly do these allow for? It probably isn't good for installing homebrew, right?

At most it would allow for ROP chains. Since you don't have the ability to write executable code to ram (that only worked on 3DS because VRAM was mapped with RWX permissions for some reason) you're essentially just limited to calling arbitrary functions that already exist in the game. Think of it like having a book. You can't write your own story in to the book because there are no blank pages but you could rip the pages out and shuffle them about to make your own story out of the existing plot. Unless you have a vulnerability in the RO system module you can't really do anything with it other than maybe making mod menus for any games that do have save exploits.

Remember that the Switch has a web browser too. If anything interesting was possible with just a userland exploit alone it would have been done by now with webkit exploits. There have been numerous exploits for webkit over the years that could be ported to the Switch but no one bothers because for homebrew you either need a kernel exploit or exploits for each and every single system module.

the one who discovered the bug and reported it to Nintendo said this. I have 0 clue if this could do anything

Damn it, we're always SO CLOSE to finally installing homebrew. I might just sell my switch if this charade continues and just pay up the difference. It's unreal.

*facepalm* another one of these threads.
So I should bring my hammer and destroy the switch already? I'm so fucking tired of not being able to install homebrew. It's amazing what world of options it opens up on 3DS but fuck if I ever manage to install it on switch.

Don't. Just don't. You'll regret it afterwards.

Software exploit above 4.x.x may never exist. Only way to mod any new switch now is through a modchip

Why shouldn't I? The modding community has always been THIS CLOSE to finally discovering a second exploit but something tiny always prevents it.

Give me micro-soldering skills, electronical know-how, a site where I can buy the chip and the money for the chip and we might talk.

This won't do anything since it requires online play as i understand it. That and ROP under the game process is not very useful on its own.
